  1. That's fantastic. I'm a diehard Twins fan living in Texas. Knowing that he is a greyhound guy just bumped him up a couple notches on my list of favorites. Also, the ad sounds great, and the picture of him with the three pups is fantastic! I don't know if these people own greyhounds, but they are on the GALT website posing with greyhounds. Remington

A coworker came to school with terrible news today. Remington, her 6-year-old Great Dane was whining last night during a storm. He was let outside (which my coworker didn't really want to do, as he wasn't a big fan of rain). He walked to his favorite spot in the yard, layed down, and died. There were no symptoms. He just died. My coworker's son (a 4-year-old kiddo) isn't quite grasping it yet. He thinks Remington will be there when they get home. Remington was a sweet and wonderful dog. My coworker was in the process of acclimating him to the dog park and how to behave around other pups. He always came muzzled, spent a few minutes inside the park, and left when the excitement got to be too much. She was working very hard to get him comfortable around others. It was a slow process, but he was improving. His death was a big surprise. He will truly be missed by all that knew him. -IAMs
  3. This thread will be a home to the many regularly scheduled greyhound get-togethers that people have throughout the year. (Non-greys are accepted, too!) If you have a regular meeting time for your greys or a group of greys at a formal dog park, please post it here. You never know how many greys might show up! Regularly Scheduled Greyhound Get Togethers United States Minnesota City: Minneapolis Park: Lake Harriet, meet on the lake path near the Rose Gardens Park Location: From 35W, take 46th St. exit, go west on 46th to East Lake Harriet Parkway, then turn right (north). Park at or near 43rd St. The Rose Gardens will be on your right, the lake is on your left. / Google! map Days: Every Sunday at 2pm, weather permitting. Other Notes: No appointment necessary, just show up! This walk is just under 3 miles, but is NOT an aerobic exercise. The pace is pretty slow, good for chatting with other grey-owners. There is a nice spot to let your hound wade/lounge in the water on hot days. Texas City: Fort Worth Park: Fort Woof Dog Park (inside Gateway Park) Park Location: Beach Street just north of I-30 and just east of I-35 / Google! map Days: Saturday and Sunday, approximately 7:30am to 10:00am / Wednesday evenings from 7:00pm to 8:30pm Other Notes: There are usually between 5 and 15 greyhounds at the park on these mornings. The park has 6' fences, separate large and small dog areas, water and shade trees, and lots of room to run. Come on out and join the fun! Regularly Scheduled Greyhound Get Togethers Canada Ontario City: London Park: Springbank Park Park Location: Enter through Commissioners Road entrance (Storybook Gardens entrance) in Byron, drive straight in, park in the lot on the left... you'll probably see a bunch of us standing around / Google! map Days: Every second Saturday of the month at 2:30 pm plus sometimes we have extra walks in between. Other Notes: A greyt time to chat with other Greyhound owners, take a nice walk around Springbank and relax in the sun, or snow. We do this walk year round, unless bad weather hits, then we reschedule for the following weekend.

    Lary Hess

I just wanted to let everyone know that Lary Hess, a true lover of animals, passed away recently. I met Lary this past summer while taking Maya (our only grey at the time) to the dog park during the cool mornings. Lary and a group of others (myself included) sat and visited from about 6:00am until 12:00pm. This was an almost daily activity. After a member of the group moved to Mexico in August, the group somewhat dissolved, and each was only seen in passing at the park. While it was nice to see each other and visit, it was never like the group that got together so regularly as we did in the summer. Kudzu, Lary's dog, helped Maya to break out of her shell. Maya would play with my wife and I, but she never really knew what to do around other dogs. With Kudzu's help (as well as Stefano... a grey/bulldog mix), Maya learned that it was okay to play-bite other dogs, okay to bark, and okay to chase (and be chased). All the while, Lary and I (as well as the rest of the group) looked on with smiles on our faces. We were enjoying one of the most beautiful sites: dogs having fun. On Saturday, November 19th, Lary passed away after suffering multiple seizures. Kudzu will be going to stay with his sister in Georgia. It is the right thing to do, as Kudzu's sister will be there, as well. Larry will be missed... but not forgotten. Lary Hess (star-telegram.com) -IAMs
