we were just talking saullie always dragged his left leg a little on our walks. and that is the leg but that at least 2 or 3 years
this really stinks.
-
what must have happened is saullie fell down the stairs and the weakened bone shattered.
Might not have been a fall. Morgan started limping on a Friday night. Sunday morning his leg shattered when he landed at the base of the stairs. No fall involved.
did it show up in xrays? when he had the surgery they didn't see it either
so scary

this is a thread non of us wanted to be part of drats
so far saullie isn't in pain. so i am reading all of your posts with interest
today we started on organic raw. he wasn't thrilled with the chicken backs ate two and then said no way
we will try him on it for a few days if he really doesn't like it we won't force him
-
our regular vet called me today when he got the results from the surgeon
he said they just didn't see it in the xrays. he said they all suspected it but it is unusal for during the surgery the surgeon who he highly respects couldn't see it.
what must have happened is saullie fell down the stairs and the weakened bone shattered.
if it hadn't happened he said within a few weeks he would have been limping and it would have shown up
he agrees with our course of action and he is a believer in amputation for pain management
but in this case he agrees with not.
he has no way of knowing how long saullie has
thanks everyone your support has been fabulous

a vet told me 50% of all dogs get cancer of some form
our chester died of mass cell
now saullie has osto.
our group has place close to 1,000 greys and no way have 41% died of osto
no matter what it stinks. hopefully they will find a cure in time to help our saulle and all those who are suffering now
-

I know many of you have gone thru this, the pain was unreal.
we were prepared when he broke his leg that is was osto but when they couldn't see it went ahead with the surgery.
we wouldn' thave done it if we had knew it was
we will let him go to bridge in a few days because we won't put him any more suffering at his age
thanks for your support
-
thanks everyone. since we have stairs we moved down to the living room to sleep with saullie
his first night home was uneventful thank g-d. he ate pretty well, he couldn't decide where he wanted to be
so we leash walked him between the kitchen and living room for 10 minutes which is fine since we don't have a large house (lol)
this morning he seemed to be walked a little better.
again thanks for your healing thoughs keep them coming
-
there is nothing i can say just sending hugs
-
it is his left front the bone between the knee and the shoulder
we are assuming he fell down the steps
morty,zie & myron aren't talking
the brace is so upsetting to look at
it looks like a flying saucer attached to his shoulder and he has to have it on for months
they said he will be unconfortable for up to 6 months
but at his age we are so glad they could fix it
-
we picked saul up today from the er vet
they said the break was unbelievable over 3 hours of surgery
he has this plate like thing by his shoulder. an exterior brace
they still don't think it was cancer so that is fabulous
depending upon how he heals he might still have it on in dewey
he will surely be a conversation piece
please keep him in your thoughts he looks so scared
-
my heart goes out to you
-
hugs and know you are in our thoughts

dh went to see saullie today. he got up and wagged his tail then laid down on dh lap
because of my allergies i can't go drats
hopefully he will be home tomorrow wednesday the latest
the surgeron said he is optomistic that it isn't cancer
we will know for sure end of week
vet said it was a horrible break. it was over a 3 hours surgery.
he will have a leg brace for up to 2 months
he might need physical therapy the good thing is my daughter is finishing up getting her masters in acupunture so she is going to find someone to treat him on a regular basis
we can't even imagine the bill. we were afraid to ask lol
but as long as he is ok we don't care
what is sooo nice is quite a few grey friends have asked to take him for the days we were supposed to go away in july
it is only for 5 days but not sure what we are going to do yet
a big thanks to all the support
-
we have carpeted stairs but he has pannus and he might have fallen down the stairs
we will never know the vet said the same thing it looked like he was hit with a baseball bat
thanks for caring
-
thanks everyone for your well wishes
saullie is doing better. we spoke with the surgeon today. he is eating and they had him for a short walk.
we are going to see him tomorrow
-
thanks for everyone's support
we can't see him until tomorrow they dont want to get him excited
last night they said he was standing already
-
saullie broke is leg- not sure how he did it. the surgeron said it looks like he was hit with a hammer that is how bad it was.
at first our vet and surgeron said at his age almost 11 it probably is cancer but thank g-d during the surgery he said it was clear. he took a biospy just to be sure but he doesn't think it is
ok now for the advice- he has a rod and pins etc-must have rest and be leash walked for at least 6 weeks, confined etc.
we were supposed to go away for a week in 3 weeks not sure if we are going a good friend said she will watch him and walk him she has had greys for over 15 years i digress
ok now for the advice needed. what supplements would you suggest to give him.
i was giving him glucosime etc but stopped as where i was getting it from human grade got it from china and with all that is going on with chinese importants i am paranoid about using it.
so suggestions for brands of supplements etc
he broke it friday had surgery yesterday and will be home tuesday
-
ok so it is normal
sometimes he spits up a little water but so does saul so i figured that was ok
-
Ok so i rush my dogs off the vet at the drop of a hat.
my vets are terrific and they kid me about it. many times they don't even charge me
myron has been living with us a year and 1/2 and they say they have a book on him
he is fawn color and he came home in dec so when his stomach and hind turned dark in the late spring was it so out of whack to think he was bleeding internally. i don't think so- ok so it was sun tan.
all right stop laughing now i have a question that i am sure will give everyone another chuckle
when he drinks on an empty stomach his stomach makes girggling sounds. it has gotten a litte worse lately
this is not a new thing his foster mom said he did this with her also
i am sure it is nothing but just in case......
