  1. We got Gracie as a broken legged foster 6 weeks ago. She just got her hard cast off yesterday and was put into a soft cast. Her leg is healing very nicely. We even made an appointment to get her spayed for this coming Tues. BUT, just this morning, we noticed drops of blood throughout the house. Yep, she went into heat!!!

AND, she lives with our three greyhound boys who are VERY interested in what's going on!!

We had girlie panties and she is in those right now with a sanitary napkin.

Anybody else had this experience? How long does the heat last?

  2. My Willow, 14 yrs. 10 months, is experiencing this too. During the day she can sleep 4-5 hours without having to get up for a potty break. At night, however, she's been waking up every 2-3 hours to go out. She will go out to pee pee, but on occasion after wandering the backyard, she will come into the house and promptly poop. I attribute it to 'senior moments'. Then she's up at 5:00 a.m. wanting breakfast. Needless to say, my sleep hasn't been great lately.

  3. Muzzled, standing on the floor with one person holding and tapping or rubbing very heavily on the head while the other clips has worked so far at work.

What does the tapping/rubbing heavily do? just distract them? I use this stand up method too, but the second person just holds onto their head.

  4. Willow, my 14.5 yr old turned super picky about 5 months ago. She used to be happy with kibble and some canned food mixed in. Now, I give her a cup of kibble and a cup of something yummy I buy and cook especially for her: steak, meatballs, liverwurst, pork chops, beef liver, hamburger meat. Just over the past few days, even those things are not interesting her so much (she will go nuts over cookies, though).

I'm not really concerned with how 'bad' something may be for her, I just want to her eat *something*. Lately, I have dolloping a little bit (maybe a tablespoon, total) of canned cat food over her meals. That stinky food is enough to get her interested and she will usually finish her bowl of food (sometimes it takes 2 attempts - she'll eat a little, and a few hours later come back and finish). I know its not the best thing, but at least she's eating and her stools are normal.

    Its worth a try.

Good luck with your senior girlie.

ummm, ok, I feel like an idiot. If I have a picture posted in the gallery, how do I insert it into a post?
