  1. This boy was so special. When I picked him up all I wanted to do was bring him home with me. I tried fostering Rocky, but his kidneys were failing and my husband didn't have the patience with Rocky that Julie and Dale have had over the last 18 months.

They accommodated him and took care of him and never once blamed him for his incontinence, they just took care of it and moved on. They even developed a system for Rocky so that he wouldn't be "embarrassed" by his condition. Rocky was always treated like a gentleman.

Rocky couldn't have asked for a better, more loving home. And, as I told Julie, Rocky left his paw print on the hearts of every person that ever met him. I will never forget him.

  2. I've adopted three greys in the last 2 1/2 years. One was in the kennel for almost a year, one came from being in foster care for two months (although she did spend a little time in the kennel before I got her), one came from a brood farm (was also at the kennel for a little while). I've also had about 8 fosters that have all come from the kennel and fresh off the track. (BTW, my adoption group is GPA Houston)

I've never had any of these dogs come with parasites of any kind. Maybe we have a great kennel, maybe I was just lucky...I tend to think it's the former. Our kennel dogs are pretty well cleaned up, I've never had one come home with a tick, fleas, or anything else.

  3. I just had a foster that was on antibiotics and had no previous experience with pill-giving.  I used hot dogs.  I took one hot dog and sliced into 1/2 in slices, cut the pill in half and guided each piece of pill into a slice of hot dog.  Of course I had to give hot dog pieces to my two also -- they weren't about to let the foster get an awesome treat like a hot dog while they just watched and salivated!!!!!
