  1. I had the same consideration when I had to take Lou to the vet. Many times I canceled because he was having a bad day. My vet was very understanding. When we were able to visit we waited in the car until they called us. I also took a small bed with me. My vet would get on the floor to exam Lou.

I would look into a mobile full service vet in your area.

  2. The first word for that comes to mind for Lou is STRONG. He was a strong racer, winning many races and was adopted out at 5 years old. He was strong willed, smart, and loved being lazy and sleeping. He even told me when it was time to come out of his confined space in the kitchen when he decided to eat the formica countertops!!!!! (His way of communicating). He was silent but you knew he wanted to be top dog on his walks. In his home, he accepted neighbors, visitors and of course a sibling greyhound although he looked at me with the expression "why did you do that, I am perfectly content being alone". He was. He fought the best fight, his body gave away and he was not happy. You are the best Lou and will miss you much. Thank you for all those years. My STRONG boy. Love you.

  3. My boy will be 15 in Dec. He has hind leg weakness, kidney disease. He eats well and loves to go in the yard. I have to help him get up and ly down. He poops in his sleep. I got that covered. However he grunts and groans. I dont believe he is in pain but pissed he is not working right!! More frusration then anything. Is this a good quality of life? He will be going to get for check up on his kidney disease next week. Any experiences?. He is on pain meds and meds for kidneys.

  4. Going through this now with Lou who is 14.5. Hind leg weakness, kidney disease and some dental problems. Tonight was not a good night as he was panting and just could not get comfortable. I have him a Tramadol but not sure if the panting was from the Tramadol. I am able to tend to his needs as I am retired. He does whine, cry, bark when he needs to go out. He needs help to get up, he wobbles when he gets up but can go to bathroom but sometimes falls into a sitting position when relieving himself. I know he doesn't like that!! I have to travel for 4 days starting Thurs. and he will be with a very competent grey sitter. I feel terrible that I can't be with him and depending how today goes, for his sake, sending him to the bridge. I don't want him to be miserable while I am away. I gave him a Adequan shot at 1 am. and hopefully this can get him through the next couple of days. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers. I love my boy ad want to do what is best for him.

  5. My Lou had his 14th BD in Dec. He still has spirit but his body is giving in. He is on Adequan shots, Gabapentin, Doxipin and Enanipril for early kidney disease. Kidney disease seems to be in check. Hind leg weakness is pretty bad. He sometimes collapses when having a bowel movement. Eating is good, looks forward to his walks. I sleep on the couch because he needs to be let out often. Right now he has Girada and is on Panacur. This is not his first bout with Girarda. He looses his movements during his sleep. So what to do? Not asking for answers just saying that it sucks when they get old. Love him.

  6. How do you know if anal glands are infected or need expressing? Lou's bum is hurting I can tell but not sure if it is from Girada meds that make him go to bathroom frequently. I have been putting Desitan on anal area. I do not smell any odor.
