  1. Ex-pen at top of stairs might be kinda dangerous -- wouldn't want him to try to jump there. I was thinking more of something you could put right in front of the front door, even just inches away, that would keep him from getting at the doorknob / lock so that at least he couldn't open it ..... Where's an engineer when we need one? :lol

I've ordered a muzzle - if that works, I guess he won't be able to open the door or chew on anything, so I'm hoping blocking him away from it won't be necessary! I guess we'll see.

I would call the rescue and see if they will give you a muzzle. They should of sent you home with one and they should of fit it to him. I am sure they have plenty there since all they dogs come there with one. Just a thought!! Good luck I hope it works out for him!!

  2. Wow! I can't thank you all enough for the sweet words about Odin, especially the tidbits and pictures from those who have actually met him! That is so cool. I feel so lucky to have such a special dog and I'm so glad we decided to adopt a greyhound! This board seems like such a wonderful community and I definitely feel welcomed. :)

    SQUEEKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you, Janet, for giving me the heads up that Squeeks' family is on GT.

Squeeks/Odin is a great greyhound. He never ever made trouble at the kennel, is as sweet as the day is long, is quiet, playful, and loves people. oh ... and LOVES his milk bones or any other treat you decide to give him! Fortunately for you, the breeder (Eric Frick) raises very well socialized dogs, and we continue that in our racing kennel. Eric also raises pups with the prettiest white teeth I have ever seen. Must be the water in Ohio where they are raised.

Congratulations on getting a really wonderful boy, and thank you for posting so I know he is happy, well cared for, and adored in his new home. We get so attached to them once they walk through our kennel door, and it's hard to let them go but we have to do it.

Hello from up in Canton, Ga!! I also adopted my little girl Garnet from Adopt A Greyhound Atlanta. Odin is one handsome boy! Welcome.

What is Garnet's racing name? She may have been one of ours, too ... in fact, our Garnet is a Pak dog just like Odin.

Garnet's racing name was Pak Futurity Gem. She was a race school dropout and never actually raced.

Wendy... did you adopt Garnet fairly recently? If so, what was her name at Carl's place? I wonder if I can find her on his website. :)

We got her back in Nov. Her name was Garnet at the kennel. She was a return and already had the name do we did not change it. Ms. Naughty is still up on the site under the adopted pups.

  4. When we adopted Garnet we were told that she was cat and had lived with cats for 4 months. We have 3 cats and the adoption agency forgot to send her muzzle home with us. Well she did not care for the cats and continued to growl at them. So we called up the agency and he told us that every time she showed an interest in them to squirt her with a water bottle. I will tell you that worked wonders! She thought the water was coming from the cats and in about a day she was good to go. She did get a couple of paws to face from the cats which also helped. We went back for the muzzle the next day and she wore it till we were comfortable.

  5. Just wanted to say a quick hello! I adopted my first grey almost 2 months ago. I have wanted one since I was young and went to the track to see them race. I recently bought my first house and new it was time to add one! There have been a few adjustments but she has settled in very nice with my 3 cats. Her name is Garnet and we live just north of Atlanta. She just turned 2 in September and think goodness racing was not for her and she never raced. The couch is now hers as is most of the bed. The vet gave her a clean bill of health last week and we look forward to many many years ahead with her. I love this board and have learned so much! Thank you!! I will post a picture if I can figure it out! B)

  6. Thanks for all the help. I left her out of her crate, muzzled, and cats put up, for about 2 hours last night. I would not say she did well. I had her gated off to just the kitchen and living room. I came home to everything on the counters and tables on the floor and a picture in the kitchen on the floor. She wined for about 20 minutes after I got home and then settled down. I guess its the whole separation anxiety thing. I am just going to continue to work with her to get over it. Any suggestions would be helpful!!

  7. Thanks for the quick response. Well, I have 3 cats and they are still getting used to each other. I don't trust her 100% around them alone yet. I know eventually she will be able to roam when we aren't home. She is never in it for very long periods of time till this week and my partner is out of town who is normally home with her. She has done good here lately and yesterday she seem to leave the crate alone.

  8. I adopted my first greyhound about a month ago. She has been amazing so far! However, when she is put in her crate she bends the bars mainly on the door. She has now started to pull the door inwards. Her nose was getting raw at first but that has stopped and has healed. She has so many toys that she won't play with. I have a few in her crate with her, including a nylabone. I have started to put a kong in there with her if she is in there for longer periods. Any other suggestions???? Thanks!!!!
