I don't know much about any health related issues,,but I know how it feels when you're worried about your family member. I just want to send you and your pup some white light and prayers that it works out okay.

no real change today. neurologist is going to look at him again this afternoon, but internists exam this am didn't find anything going on neurologically.

seems to have pain in his front left shoulder and front right pinkie toe (?!?)

could this all be a pulled muscle and sore toe? seems hard to believe the arched back, collapsing/ataxia and deliberate front end stepping could be just that but we will see i guess...

These are interesting symptoms. My boy went through some similar stuff. Arching back, random joint stiffness, front end high stepping, but no ataxia. After seeing several specialists (neuro, internist), we landed on a diagnosis of PLE, IBD and PLN. Do you think the back pain could be kidney pain? If it's intestinal (arching back) it could be a food allergy? Sorry if this has already been stated, have they done a full tick panel? I hope he feels better soon.

well, Phoenix is home. final diagnosis = nothing definitive. best answer is the toe/shoulder pain that he reacted to during exam/manipulation.

Or at least i hope that's our issue. after several evals by the neuro surgeon they gave him the "all clear" in that department.

sent us home with anti-inflammatory med and we'll let him rest, limited activity for the next 2 weeks. we'll reevaluate at that time.

think i might have a Stage 5 Drama Queen on my hands. I call him my baby, but seriously...this is a little extreme. even for him

thanks for the input! Excuse my ignorance but give me the details on PLE, IBD and PLN...just for future reference. If we need to revisit this problem i'd like to mention it to our vet.

in the meantime, Phoenix is looking for a job to pay off his $800 medical bill. If anyone might be hiring (an awfully attractive, overly dramatic) greyhound...please let me know.

thank you again to everyone who offered thoughts, ideas, prayers and support. we appreciate it more than i can reasonably express here. :grouphug

I'm glad Phoenix is home and I hope he continues to improve. IBD is Irritable Bowel Disease (auto immune) which can cause the cramping and back arching. However, there is generally diarrhea and other digestive symptoms although my guy really didn't have those either. He was sensitive to a lot of foods and I ended up taking him to a nutritionalist and cooking him a diet specific to his medical needs. The PLN is Protein Losing Neropathy which is kidney disease. This required low protein and low phosphorus in his diet. I often wondered if some of the back arching wasn't being cause by kidney pain. The PLE is protein losing enteropathy which is losing protein through the gut. He also had high blood pressure which could have been caused by any of these conditions. The PLE would occasionally cause edema in the legs amd ascites in the abdomen. I think it's rare that a dog would have all these conditions but I just bring it up because I'm not sure which symptoms were cause by which condition. He was 8.5 when he first became symptomatic. I think the joint pain was an auto immune issue but joint pain can also be TBD related which is why I asked about the tick panel.

I'm hoping that Phoenix has none of these conditions but I did find it interesting that he had some similar symptoms. Please keep us updated and enjoy spoiling him rotten.

Glad Phoenix is home ... hopefully he'll recover fully and that will be it. Your little girl is gorgeous and that's an incredibly special picture!
