For in the future, I use the jersey knit boxers(or boxer briefs) and put them on backwards using the fly for the tail. If you need to, you can cut the fly open a little more to make the tail placement more comfortable. Also, if necessary for the small waisted hound, I fold the waistband over then put in a few stiches by hand to make the waist band a little snugger.
