DISCLAIMER: My opinion is just that, MY OPINION. Not directed towards anyone who posted prior to me.

 

I'm of the "if you can't afford it, don't buy it" way of thinking. So if you can't afford what may lie ahead of you with a pet, then perhaps rethink getting one.

 

My sister is a vet and lives in New Mexico. She has a lot of Native American clients with large animals. Many times, she's been paid with incredible beadwork that's priceless, but that doesn't pay her bills. She's also been paid with horses, cows, and chickens. So sometimes when a vet makes a firm rule that you must pay before treatment or pay at least 1/2 upfront, it's understandable.

 

Of course like any other profession, at the other end of the spectrum, there are vets who are in it only for the money. There's one at the specialist hospital where we take Zoe and she chills my blood.
