  1. I'm from England and most people let their greyhounds off leash here. My boy Frisby managed to kill eight rabbits, three pheasants and a pigeon in his years with me, but always without fail would never go out of sight of me and always proudly brought his prey back for me to see. Half the time he hadn't killed, just injured them and I had to finish the job off. Jimmy is now off leash on every walk and like Frisby, he has to keep me in sight. His prey drive is practically non existent. If I call 'wait' he will stop dead in his tracks and Frisby was the same. We quite often meet friends with greys and they love to run together. One friend has four greys and two of them are never off leash as he knows they can't be trusted, but the other two are the same as Jimmy and stay close. It's just the way things are in England. However, where I walk Jimmy is well away from any road. If there are roads near on a walk I will keep him on the leash

  2. It's two years today since I said goodbye to my beautiful gentle giant Frisby and not a day goes by when I don't think of him. If anyone had told me how much I would miss him, I wouldn't have believed them, but I know he had a good life and I am grateful for that. This was the last time he had that mad greyhound run on a beach.

  3. I went for a three hour hike with Jimmy and my son's Springer and the vets (his sister in law) Labrador. There were several lakes and being retrievers the other two were in and out of the water. Jimmy stood at the edge watching them and then just dived in and started actually swimming. That's the first time I have seen a greyhound swim. It just doesn't look right! When he got out he was running round and round like mad, probably as it was February it was to warm himself up. He went in again, so it can't have been that cold. Boy did he sleep well when we got home. Luckily I had just taken his coat off, so could wear it when he had finished swimming.

  4. I leave for work at 8.15. I had a dog walker coming in to Jimmy at around 12.30 for the first few months after I got him. Then she started leaving me messages that he wouldn't get out of bed. So I left some really tasty treats, which worked two or three times. Then he just went back to sleep even with the treats around. So we both agreed that I was wasting my money and she stopped coming. Now he is home alone until I get home at 5.30. He gets up for me, as I feed him as soon as I get home, but then it's straight back to bed. If I have an early finish and get home too early for dinner he just looks up from his bed with a wag of the tail, but there he stays. He has about a 45 minute walk in the morning and evening and has lots of zoomies on his walks, so I have given up worrying, as he has plenty of energy when he wants. He is just a sleepy dog. Oh and he won't go to the bathroom in the garden, so sometimes goes 12 hours between pees.

He doesn't play, either with toys or with me, so it's difficult to give extra stimulation. I think some greys are just so laid back that they are happy just to be on their bed!!!

  5. It's been a whole year since I lost my precious boy Frisby. Not a day goes by that I don't miss him and think of him. I had a cry this morning, but I mostly now have a smile on my face when I think of him. We had a wonderful eight and a half years, but it's never enough is it? I never knew that it was possible to be so devastated over losing a dog. I have Jimmy in my life now and although he will never ever replace Frisby, he has helped the healing process. Miss you so much my wonderful boy.

  6. Frisby absolutely loved raw broccoli stalk and would appear the moment he heard the salad drawer of the fridge being opened (how I miss that). One day, just to test him I put a piece of broccoli & a piece of raw chicken together on the floor and he went for the broccoli. Mind you he did come back for the chicken!

  7. Frisby, it's been four months since you left me and my heart still aches every day. I miss you so much, but I know deep down you are better off where you are now, running again like you always did when you were young and fit. I love you so much. Happy 13th Birthday my beautiful boy.
