I've had Cyrus about 6 months, and when we first got him he was absolutely a velcro dog. Now he'll let me go into another room without him as long as I come back pretty quickly. If I'm gone for too long he'll come investigate.

I've had Cyrus about 6 months now and he's started doing this too! Not every time he pees but usually like 3 times while we're out on our walk. Sometimes he gets a burst of energy right after he scratches and he tries to zoom, but he's only nearly taken my arm off once, lol

Cyrus update: after a couple times jumping up and me saying "no" and nudging him back down, he now channels that energy into getting down low and swatting at me with his front paws.
At least it's an improvement! -
Thanks everyone! We just started teaching him to lay down so hopefully that will work.

Hello everyone!
My husband and I are first time greyhound owners; we adopted Cyrus three weeks ago today and he'll be two next month. He's a very sweet boy and I think he's settling into our house because he's becoming more playful, which I love. However, he has also started to jump up on me when he gets excited, like when we're about to go on a walk. He's 80 pounds so he really needs to keep all feet on the floor. I only ever pet him when he's on all fours, and I try to turn my back to him when he jumps up, but this doesn't do much to discourage him (and he scratched up my back last week on accident so that didn't work).
Do any of you have advice for ways to keep an energetic boy politely on the ground?

Cyrus is 80 pounds and black, so I often get the same wary reactions from neighbors when we walk by. But he's the biggest, friendliest dork, and he'll wag his tail so hard his whole back end starts going the second he sees any people out on the street. Most people are just curious about him and will ask what kind of dog he is, and if they seem interested I'll let them know he's friendly and they almost always want to pet him! Though I do enjoy knowing that people know where the intimidating big black dog lives, since my husband works nights and I'm home alone a lot of the time.
