Mine do this too, if they have not had enough exercise (long walks, running and playing in yard).....

Two of our local pharmacies compound the medication (Aminocaproic Acid).... we paid $35 for a weeks worth (bottle)..... this was in the past month!

Looks like he raced in Daytona...... a lot of us with fosters/adoptees from Daytona are having a major HOOKWORM problem (needing several longer worming treatments with different wormers) with symptoms/issues like you describe...... I would suggest a fecal sample to your vet AND worming him, even if the sample tests negative, and even if the adoption group had already wormed him.

I've found Stongid liquid dewormer to be the most cost-effective method of treating....... I've had to shop around to find a vet that carries it. I've had several greyhounds that have had "larval leak" and the use of Strongid every three weeks, and the monthly heartworm prevention has kept things in check.... i.e. firmer stools, no more "pudding poop"!

We get compounded liquid form through an independent compounding pharmacy. They add beef flavoring which the hounds love and consider it a treat. I administer the liquid through a plastic syringe into their mouth.
We do this too! There is a veterinary compounding pharmacy here in town...... $15- yes, fifteen dollars, for a large bottle of the liquid formulation!

We start Amicar the day of procedure....
Do you have a local vet compounding pharmacy? We get liquid Amicar for $15 per bottle which is plenty for several dogs/procedures! And they can flavor it per the dogs preferences

Sadly their little girl went to the Bridge Monday 1/5 night...... She had begun Doxycycline on 1/4 (for suspected TBD despite neg. results as Burpdog mentioned could've been the case). She went down very quickly, and was hospitalized Monday morning and started on IV fluids etc..... No necropsy done, but vets are suspecting cancer, or a virus that triggered an uncontrollable autoimmune response.

Thank you everyone for your replies and good wishes...... Please keep it coming..... I will respond as best I can.... This family usually just feeds plain kibble........ definitely no table food, or rawhides/other items from China..... nothing given/snuck over holidays from family etc. She was bred/born in the South East US....... no official races.....

Posting this for a friend with a 7yo retired racing greyhound (retired for 5 years). Little girl has not been eating since 12/15 and has had temperatures (up to 103.5F). She has lost a total of 10# (she did NOT have any weight to lose). Lives with 2 other greyhounds who are not sick. Currently under treatment of her vet. Looking for any other ideas from experienced greytalkers....... Sorry this is long, but to give a brief summary:
Tests done Results
1. CBC w/Chem blood tests: normal
2. Abdominal area Ultrasound: partial thickening of pancreas wall
3. Stomach scope: normal
4. Tick Bourne Disease titers drawn & sent: negative
Medications:
Cerenia (250mg 2x/day)
Rimadyl (75mg 1x/day)
Tylenol (250mg as needed)
Pepcid
Amoxicillin (500mg 2x daily)
Ursidiol (300mg 1x daily);
Metronidazole (500mg 1x day)
Probiotic 2 tablets daily
Have tried many foods, but she is refusing everything..... currently syringe feeding pureed cooked chicken breast.

I found that Dick Van Pattons LTD Natural Balance salmon & sweet potato was more similar than TOTw. Good luck- I feel your pain. Our nearest COSTCO is 80 miles away!

would also recommend the assistance harness from God's Greyts- worn 24/7. Would also suggest you keep walking your girl on lead for 5-10 min a day- will keep up some muscle mass to help support her rear end. Also, find some soft water proof pads to keep under her for easy washing. You an also put the twin size vinyl waterproof (human bed) covers to put under her bed covers to protect the insides.
I went through this with my Pistol and I miss him dearly.

Thank you all for your support- I need it.....
The final likely diagnosis was ruptured disk/multiple disk lesions or spinal lymphoma. My poor boy never regained any use of his legs, and became very painful.

Thank you GreyPoopon. I really hope my guy improves like yours did. Did your vet or you give aspirin? I just read a greyhound person/vet recommended that be included to "dissolve the clot."

What good things are you giving her to chew? Even my seniors will chew up stuff when bored, and if they don't get something hard to chew on a few times each week.... Bully sticks, Dentastix, Nubz bones, sweet potato chews
