  1. Keep looking for other groups. When I first started looking, there were groups that did no fence, no dog. Another was kids, no dog. Another was long periods alone, no dog. Apartments, no dog. The group I ended up using, was the opposite of the other groups. It will take a while, but keep looking and you will find the group for you. When I first started thinking of getting a greyhound, I would have been turned down just from where I was living at the time. But don't be afraid to ask a lot of questions to the group yourself to get a feel for them. I went to a meet and greet they were having BEFORE I decided on the group. We emailed back and forth for about two months before hand. I say, ask them why not so you will beable to "fix" what they saw if there is anything.

    But don't give up.

You should definately consider Greyhound Rescue Inc. I am not biased but as an owner of 2 greyhounds with a small child, they were definately willing to adopt to us. Also, good friends of ours live in an apartment and they were approved with no problems.

  2. Mydecai and Chester are fine home alone all day. My husband lets them out when he gets up and then I let them out before I leave and then I let them out the minute I get home. There has never been a problem

Caliloka only goes out twice a day. Maybe thats less than most dogs go, but if I take her out more she wont do anything. She goes out in the am and after supper/work. And I was only suggesting she find another group if thast the reason for denial...... I just dont think thats much of an issue...............

  4. We didn't have to wait to long but the drive to the kennel seemed to take forever. Congrats on your new houndie.

We worried about being a good fit for a new greyhound, but they just want to make sure that the pup is going to a loving home where they'll feel secure and be well cared for. It sounds like the pup you adopt will be pretty lucky to have such a home! Best of luck!
  5. At our rescue as I sure that the one that you are going to will be able to spot which dog will fit your household after the inital interview.

Our rescue did it with both of our dogs.

Our 3 year old daughter actually picked out our dog. We weren't even really looking for a dog but we went to the local petstore to get something for her fish and there was a greyhound rescue that was there and she sat for 2 hours and played with them.

We have never had a problem with her and the dogs.

She loves them and they absolutely adore her.

That's great! I am going to a Meet and Greet next weekend with the kids. I really am interested to see how the kids react to the dogs. DS is a bit dogshy so a relatively calm grey would be ideal for us.
