Twelve years ago we fostered you for the weekend because the adoption kennel at the track was full and you weren't really supposed to be there anyway. Ten minutes after we got home your daddy and I knew that no one would ever adopt you because you were so spooked and scared and nervous. You went into our closet and for over 10 years you ate and slept there.
China, your bridge sister, knew you needed help so for 2 weeks she showed you that walking on the sidewalk for 5 minutes was OK and that nothing or no one would hurt you. Then she decided it was time for the acid test – a walk to the park. She was there for you every step of the way, showing you where the best pee mail was, which trees to avoid because of the mockingbirds, and which little hill was the best one to climb in order to see over the entire park. She also taught you that you could come into the living room on your way to go potty without daddy having to hide in the kitchen.
So here we are, 12 years later. You no longer eat in the closet and you have become quite the bed hog. You have discovered roaching and the couch. You are our travelin' man who loves, loves, loves to go in the car and no longer checks out every stop just in case you need to remember the way home.
You are such a smart boy to survive who knows how many months out there, eating who knows what. When we first saw you at 32 pounds, our hearts broke.
We are so grateful that you are in our lives and blessed to have you.
