Recommended Posts

If you have not already done so, download and install IrFanView which can be found here. CLICK (800k)

  • Open IrfanView
  • click "File" then "Open" in the top menu bar
irfanview-menu.gif
  • select the photo you wish to optimize
  • click "Image" then "resize/resample" in the top menu bar
irfanview-image.gif
  • The bottom left box is the preserve aspect ratio, make sure it is checked so your image is resized without being smooshed
  • in the set new size box, make sure the width and height are not larger than 400
  • make sure you select the "pixels" button.
  • Lastly to preserve the quality select the RESAMPLE button on the lower right.
It should look like this:

irfanview-resize.gif

  • Click "OK"
  • Next in the upper left click "File" and then "save as" and save your image.
irfanview-file.gif
  • Make sure that the JPG file type is selected, if not choose it from the drop down list.
It should look like this:

irfanview-save.gif

And presto, you are ready to upload to GT following the instructions on greytalk

Okay - I am very computer illiterate, I guess, but when I downloaded and try it there is no files to be opened. I have plenty of Jpeg's in my computer, but how do I go to one to change it?

I could resize the pic but when I tried to post it here, it didn't work...the

'dynamic pages are not allowed'-thing appeared.

Why doesn't it work if the size is correct?

I have the same problem as above. I used to be able to post pictures, but today, it won't let me. I resized everything as described above, about a month ago. It worked before. Send help.

Is the 60 KB rule still on? I can get my pics down to the width required, but I can't get it down to 60 KB using Irfanview even when I reduce the pic to terrible resolution numbers. Help, Please!

yes, still there. You can upload them to your support gallery, then link to them.

I'm not sure what you are referring to as "support gallery". I can't find any directions for the members gallery--perhaps too much turkey still? :lol

Beneath the "GreyTalk.com" header is a line of words, Gallery Blog Contact...

Click on Gallery and find your photo gallery. Follow the upload directions there.

As Wendy said, click the GALERY link. Make sure you LOGIN, the first time there you will not be automagically logged in. Also your photo album will not exist until you upload an image, Uploading creates the album ;)

I'm having problems posting pics. I'm using Photobucket and it seems that every picture I upload to their site is condensed into a 160 pixels X 120 pixels picture. When I post those pics to GT, they appear really small. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Help!!
