Pet liability insurance?

Recommended Posts

DH starts a new job on Monday (yay!) at a brewery. It’s an office job for him - not in the tasting room. One of the job perks is that they allow pets, but the policy says they must be insured. He’s the one in charge of overseeing the policy too, but neither of us have heard of such a thing. A quick Google search doesn’t pull up anything in the US about insurance to bring pets to work. Any suggestions on what type of policy and companies?

Wouldn't your homeowners ins cover this?

I think I once had pet liability insurance for my Great Dane on my homeowners policy but I don't remember if it only covered when at home. Check with your insurance policy company.

our dogs are included in our homeowner's policy. being a homeowner you should have insurance, isn't that required in your mortgage? in nys it was a requirement. a simple rider should cover this need. it's always good to chat w/ the insurance co. and upgrade your policy.

When doing pet therapy at the hospital one of the perks was special liability insurance for the dogs, they also had it from the passing the certification test and being licensed therapy dogs.

As others have mentioned, it is part of our homeowners policy. In my case, we have unusually high level of coverage because I have horse. It’s so high they had to get special coverage the insurer termed “incidental farming”. What the heck is incidental farming? :lol  But the dogs are lumped into that, also.

We do have homeowner’s insurance. I guess I never thought to check with them thinking this was something separate since it would involve the dogs being in a workplace. I will call my insurance company on Monday to inquire. Thanks!

When I lived in Illinois we all had to get renter's insurance.  This is my conversation with State Farm  -
Agent: "Do you have a dog?"
Me: "yes"
Agent "Breed and weight?"
Me: "Yorkshire terrier.  Eight pounds""
Agent: "Is the dog attack trained?"
OP -  I agree check with your insurance agent.
