Costume Ideas Requested

Recommended Posts

Milo and Jeter are therapy dogs, and of course they have not been able to visit their regular hospital and nursing home this past year.  It has been an appallingly isolated year for the people who live in the nursing home.  At their last resident council meeting (conducted with safety guidelines, which meant no one could hear anybody else :) ), they asked if the dogs could come visit.

The nursing home has a ground floor lobby with a glass wall in front.  On each of the 2 stories above that, there is a big room with large windows where people can easily look down to the ground.  My idea is to bring the dogs to the front sidewalk, where appropriately spaced people on three floors could see them.

Does anybody have ideas for making the dogs look a little more entertaining from a distance than just their natural stunning selves?  Wear posterboard signs on each side?  Costumes that they wouldn't be able to shake off in 2 seconds?   I am not crafty or artistic.

Is there a dog costume made to look like a coronavirus?  :lol

You could do posterboards showing the corona virus.  Or simply tie balloons to their collars for a festive, happy look.  Maybe bunny ears for Easter?

Make them into doctors or nurses. Preferably nurses because they have had the brunt of everything in the last year. Scrubs, mask, and a superhero cape.

One fabric placemat + one cloth mop head + several golf ball sized styrofoam balls painted brown + red paint = assembled to become a plate of spaghetti.

Attach to a harness. Add one small container of shaky parmesan cheese. Add beret to dog's head + peel n' stick felt mustache.

You have now magically transformed your dog into an Italian Greyhound!

Oddly enough  the only people to get the joke were the animal control officers. The little fairy by Harold's head is his iggy buddy, Simon.

Another easy costume would be spots. These are also peel and stick felt cut into circles.  Try purple felt cut into the covid virus shape, with some detailing using a Sharpie marker.

I’ve often wanted an IG, a whippet, and a greyhound together to walk. Then when people ask “is that a greyhound?” You can say “yes!” LOVE the Italian greyhound idea for any costume party.
