sarabz Posted June 22, 2020 Posted June 22, 2020 We just adopted David, although we've been fostering for a couple of weeks. I suspect he has hookworms which I know will affect his stool. Getting him tested shortly and I know it can be 3-6 months to eradicate. I've given him a bland diet after each of the two deworming tablets, and his stool was pretty great with hamburger and rice, not great with chicken and rice. Currently on Purina Pro Plan Salmon Sensitive stomach kibble or whatever the title is, recommended by both of our greyhound groups. Our other grey, Gracie, isn't great on this food so I'm debating switching. I was thinking of trying the Purina Pro Plan beef and rice but there seems to be a supply issue. I can get some at our local Petco but Chewy and Petflow are out. So - options. Try a small bag now and hope one of the online retailers gets restocked soon? Try another food? Which one? Batmom Posted June 22, 2020 Posted June 22, 2020 Might see if you can get Purina ONE more easily? They have a turkey & venison (the one with grain) that seems to be available many places, also a Sensitive that is salmon based / flavored too. The ingredients are a little different from Pro Plan and seem to work better for some dogs. Batmom Posted June 22, 2020 Posted June 22, 2020 Oh, Purina ONE lamb & rice tends to still be available, too. Time4ANap Posted June 22, 2020 Posted June 22, 2020 Chewy stock comes and goes rapidly. The easiest thing to do with Chewy is to setup auto-delivery. During the lockdown, I switched ours to every 3 weeks instead of once a month just to ensure we would get it because the shipping times were excruciatingly long. I just this week switched it back as we ended up with one more bag on hand than usual so I was able to slow the deliveries back to the normal cycle. If your order is on auto-delivery they will reserve inventory for your order first when it comes in or when it is due in if there's a backorder. Rocket had a lot of stomach issues from stress colitis. The Purina Pro Plan Focus Large Breed worked well for him but is chicken based. Kate and Petunia are on it also and they do well on it. Kate is still hookworm positive but has had literally no stomach issues during treatment on this food. We do also give her the RX Zyme and Rx Biotic supplements on her food to ease any potential stomach distress from the hooks, but the food really works well for her. She is soft and shiny and maintaining her girlish figure just fine on it. Quote Camp Broodie. The current home of Mark Kay Mark Jack and Gracie Kiowa Safe Joan. Houndtime Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 Two things unrelated to food. Congratulations, Sara and family, on the new adoption. We are pretty much back on lockdown here although we were only doing necessary trips for groceries anyway. We went back to grocery delivery this week to avoid being out and about at all. I just said the same thing to Len tonight. If the numbers go up again, we might re-think going out. I only go to a local grocery, which is usually not crowded. I go at 7:30 in the morning. cleptogrey Posted June 27, 2020 Posted June 27, 2020 Try the pro plan focus chicken. My dogs have alternated between the salmon and!chicken with out a problem. Hooks will upset thier stomach so its most likely not the food. Lettuces antec worm test which showed antigens was back in less than 24hrs. Quote
