sarabz Posted May 7, 2020 Share Posted May 7, 2020 Our new foster, Josie, has hookworms. The grey savvy-vet prescribed a monster size pill of Drontal Plus. She was given this a little over 24 hours ago and has liquid poo. How long can I expect the diarrhea to last? Taking the normal steps for diarrhea in regards to bland diet but hoping this is a brief episode. Have you used Drontal Plus? What has been your experience? Kestrel Posted May 7, 2020 Share Posted May 7, 2020 Both our new dogs had some diarrhea with the first couple of doses, which I'd say lasted 24 - 48 hours. It improved with subsequent doses--both got dosed this week and it was about 24 hours of soft stool, not liquid, for each. We just switched to the chewable version of the pills, and that's even easier to get them to take. Good luck with Josie's treatment! Though if it goes on for more than 48 hours, or she *also* begins vomiting, or she starts pooping blood - call your vet immediately. Make sure she's keeping hydrating by offering lots of clean water and monitoring consumption.
