macoduck Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 I've been using cheap outdoor lounge chair cushions but they've been getting peed on. I'm looking for a bed like a Kuranda or Coolaroo style slightly raised bed for outside use. Have a brand preference? Have experience with another brand. What size did you get? https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Elevated-Cooling-Pet-Grey/dp/B076VSDH8Z/ref=sr_1_15?dchild=1&keywords=karunda%2Bbeds&qid=1588202801&sr=8-15&th=1 Coolaroo's price is better and it comes in a lighter color https://www.amazon.com/Kuranda-All-Aluminum-Silver-Chewproof-Dog/dp/B07D845WPM/ref=sr_1_29?dchild=1&qid=1588203346&sr=8-29&srs=3033205011&swrs=AF5B754DFF2FAA8BDA238ACC35626D8C&th=1 Pricey and only comes in dark colors Quote Freshy (Droopys Fresh), NoAh the podenco orito, Howie the portuguese podengo maneto Angels: Rita the podenco maneta, Lila, the podenco, Mr X aka Denali, Lulu the podenco andaluz, Hada the podenco maneta, Georgie Girl (UMR Cordella), Charlie the iggy, Mazy (CBR Crazy Girl), Potato, my mystery ibizan girl, Allen (M's Pretty Boy), Percy (Fast But True), Mikey (Doray's Patuti), Pudge le mutt, Tessa the iggy, Possum (Apostle), Gracie (Dusty Lady), Harold (Slatex Harold), "Cousin" Simon our step-iggy, Little Dude the iggy ,Bandit (Bb Blue Jay), Niña the galgo, Wally (Allen Hogg), Thane (Pog Mo Thoine), Oliver (JJ Special Agent), Comet, & Rosie our original mutt.
greysmom Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 FWIW, we have a Coolaroo-type bed. Some dogs like it, some dogs won't go near it. I think it doesn't feel safe to walk on for some dogs and they need to get used to it. We had an old rectagular Costco bed on it for a while and that seemed to help. It's currently Felicity's go to sunbaffing spot. The biggest difference between the two you linked is the Coolaroo is a woven fabic and the other one is a solid vinyl. One will let liquids through and one won't. The frame for our Coolaroo is a metal (not sure what), not pvc-type, and it's stood up to plenty of weather, playing, moving around, and all sorts of abuse pee-wise. Ours is landscape fabric green and blends in the yard fine, but colors would be fun. I guess it's about what you want really because it seems to be pretty equal. macoduck Posted April 30, 2020 Author Posted April 30, 2020 Chris, I was thinking of a lighter color since podenco Lulu likes to lay in the sun and I thought a darker color might be a bit hotter. I also like hearing that the Coolaroo has a woven fabric rather than solid vinyl since this will be outside and rain water will need to drip through it. Trudy Posted April 30, 2020 Posted April 30, 2020 The kuruanda beds are ones you'll see in shelters. Often with chew marks lol They are quite durable. We just have the coolaroo type - everybody has used them. If they were not quite sure at first, I just tossed a bed on top. We have to replace the material from time to time since they are out in the sun on the deck. Quote
Scoutsmom Posted April 30, 2020 Posted April 30, 2020 I have a Kurunda bed, the XL size I think. It has a plastic frame, not aluminum. I've had it for years and it has stood the test of time. My current dog loves it -- she lays on it and surveys the neighborhood.. Others have been mixed, some liked it and some didn't. Quote
cleptogrey Posted April 30, 2020 Posted April 30, 2020 my friend in houston has the kurunda beds for her dogs- afghans and I.G.s. they last forever- replaceable covers- options for u.v. resistant fabrics with good drainage. when i say years i mean 30! they also do not squeak like the metal frame beds. NeylasMom Posted May 11, 2020 Posted May 11, 2020 I have this one: K&H PET PRODUCTS Original Bolster Pet Cot Elevated Pet Bed Chocolate https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XH1J2VH/ref=cm_sw_r_em_apa_i_-9mUEbH80BZBN Check Chewy or Clean Run for a better price. I got mine at Costco for around $35, but I've only seen it there that one time I don't think Violet would use one without the bolsters. Neither of the dogs seek this one out on their own, but they will both lay in it and Violet seems to like it once she's in it. I like that I can leave it out.
