Leo

Recommended Posts

Oh, Leo. I met you at the farmer's market M&G. I sat on the ground, you crawled in my lap, gave me a kiss that was practically pornographic, and I was in love. We couldn't bring you home then, Murphy was near the end and needed our attention, but when we were ready I called the adoption group about you. Kim said you were her favorite, your foster family was only willing to let you go because they couldn't handle another dog because they loved you so much, and then you joined our family.

I picked you up, and your foster dad said here, you need to take this purple bone with you--it's his favorite, I don't know why. Later I bought you an identical blue bone, and another purple kong toy (football). You ignored the blue bone, it had to be purple. Football went everywhere--it helped your anxiety--and now it's gone to the bridge with you. A few months ago I bought you a purple octopus.  He was a fast friend, I'm keeping him to remember you. Everything had to be purple.

Your anxiety was so severe. Thank you to Jennifer for explaining what fear aggression was, that helped us help you. Prozac helped, but so did the move to the house. You didn't live a large life--you mostly stayed home and enjoyed your house, your yard, and your beloved back porch where you napped in the sun, trash talked squirrels, and hung out with us and your brother. You loved that porch and your sunny spots. And you spent an entire spring arguing with a hawk about who would eat the squirrels.

You were your daddy's shadow during the day. You adored him, spent all your time with him, and followed him everywhere. At night, you cuddled with me in bed. Your anxiety was so real to you, and you helped me with mine at night.

I just can't begin to believe you're gone, so suddenly, when you weren't sick. I wish you had enjoyed more trips to the ice cream parlor, more movie nights, more days in the sun. But your last day was good, a Leo kind of day. We were all home together and you spent most of the day chilling on the couch with your daddy. You enjoyed your porch and your sun, had a fancy dinner with chicken, and cuddled up with me in bed. I'm glad your passing was peaceful for you--no anxiety in the end.

We miss you friend. Godspeed, you were very loved. May you find many purple things at the rainbow bridge and find your brothers Patrick and Murphy.

I'm so very sorry. Your precious boy was fortunate to find a family that understood his quirks.

Godspeed Leo.

We should all be so lucky to have our last day be a "Leo kind of day," doing all the things that make us feel safe and loved. You gave him a wonderful life and a beautiful tribute. Rest well, Leo.

My heart is breaking for you. :brokenheart Perhaps he will send you a sign that he is well and remind you that he will never leave you. Only his body died. The Leo that you loved is spirit and he is OK and the love you shared simply cannot be destroyed by death or anything else. It is the most powerful energy in the universe. :f_red

The Way

In the darkness I turned to go; my last day's

done; I'll miss you so. No time even to say

goodbye or to lock the tears spilling from

your eyes.

That's when I heard you call my name;

I knew right then I must turn back to help ease your pain.

Since I've no voice with which to speak,

its whispers in your dreams I'll make.

Ease your heart and rest your mind, my

time with you was the best of kind. I couldn't

have asked for a better friend, we've shared

our journey to the very end.

There's one final thing you need to know, I'll

whisper in your ear before I go....."I'm leaving

first to find the way...so I can lead you back here with me on your last day."  -(SLong)

:f_redBridge angel wisdom: "The love is bigger than the pain. I know your heart is breaking terribly. But I promise you that your pain will subside over time, and our love, our love not only will survive, it will be stronger. Someday the horrible pain will be a memory of deep sadness but our love will still be vibrant and alive. Love is always bigger than pain. When you are hurting, reach for the love and I promise you will feel better."

I bet there is purple all over the place up there. Hugs to your family and I too am loving the concept of a Leo kind of day.

He was a lucky, lucky dog to have such a wonderful life with so many people who loved him.  And a wonderful death for him with no fear.  A terrible death for you, but so good you could be with him.

Leo, we cannot believe you are gone, either. You and Henry stayed with us over Christmas... you were such a snuggler.

Please find a way to let Henry and your humans know that you are ok. You just left too soon. We are sad.
