Leave It! The Peanut Butter Challenge

Recommended Posts

The Wisenheimer moved in mid-April. Many of you may have met him at our booth at GIG. A champion whippet who owner suddenly passed in January. It's taken a couple of months for his true colors to show....his other life was loosie-goosie/ A dog door, lived with a lab with whom he jumped the fence with daily and his littermate who was a champion counter surfer who walked on the counters and ate off the stove. All of this info was slowly revealed over my conversations with his breeder. But, Jamie, the Wisenheimer is a delight and very very smart and totally attached to Felix. He has given Felix a new lease on life!

2 nights ago Joe was cleaning the kitchen. 2 grilled sausages were in a pie dish, on the counter. Joe went to the pantry at one end of our 6' x 9' kitchen, returned with a zip-lock bag and the sausages were gone! Thinking he had a senior moment, he checked the fridge, nope the stealth bomber got it! This is not the first thing he has silently confiscated from the counter- green tripe in a dog bowl when I went to get kibble out of the pantry and fortunately he dropped a bunch of grapes(i made him puke anyway), a pic insecticide stick(chomped on it and called poison control) and he knocked off the stove a covered bowl of dog food. ENOUGH!!!! RIGHT????

SO IT'S TIME I DID SOME SERIOUS LEAVE IT TRAINING! Our home is now littered with plastic container lids on tables & counters. We are watching him like a hawk, the smarty pants that he is just gives us stink eye but is leaving it. My LEAVE IT correction voice is that of a witch! I'm recording the pain and suffering that most likely will save his life. We are hysterical watching all of this. Are we masochist? maybe...????btw, we went out, Jamie was crated, left all the bait out....did Felix touch it? NO, he knows the rules!!! :rules40227194_2013353928683913_6815996872642040243280_2013353982017241_2261103129460240159999_2013354032017236_6178267363889140143568_2013354065350566_5731087493722240236470_2013348975351075_85642897975421STINK EYE UPON CORRECTION! his breeder's comment to our attempt"LOL"------AND BELOW IS A DOWN STAY NEXT TO THE FORBIDDEN FRUIT! Yup, he tested us, we tested him!40203182_2013782865307686_22074614317695

Poor, poor Jamie. Milo is a master of the same technique -- pretends he doesn't even notice the food, then snarfs it in the one second that your back is turned.

What is Jamie's reward for leaving the food?

Hahaha this is too funny! My Rogue sounds like Milo, when we moved I had an open bag of dog food in the kitchen but Rogue wasn't brave enough to go into the new kitchen so the dog food was never touched LOL. Now that he's confident and settled, he's changed his ways: the other day Rogue walked into the apt with me after a walk and just started licking clean a dinner plate on the coffee table! :omg Looks like we will have to do some leave it training now. Thanks for sharing!

HE GETS A PEANUT BUTTER REWARD of course!!!!

today jamie stole one of the bates. it's buried deep somewhere.....most likely where he hid the ginormous rawhide roll that has vanished from the earth! anyway, where ever it is i know it's clean. i did catch him red pawed trying to take a bate. i hit the table, the witch said,"leave it!" and had him do a sit/stay next to the evil bait.you should have seen the look on his face! his entire body was in "no...i didn't mean it" position. after i released him from the sit/stay i gave him(from another source- the jar) a minuscule taste of the forbidden food and reminded him to leave it! he was upstairs, loose(while i worked in the studio)....i checked when i returned and he did leave all the bait alone! the bait plates are now in the fridge. tomorrow is another day of lessons.

good dog mr. wisenheimer! great dog felix- he never even thinks about it!
