Guest FarqyArqy
Hi Guys, Evaluating a grey for my current living situations in a foster to adopt, it's the second Grey I have fostered so far and it's been fascinating to see how unique and different there personalities have been, they have basically been polar opposites. Anyways, this is a great dog and could be a terrific fit, but has had some separation anxiety the first few days. It is totally understandable as the dog adjust but I only get so much time to see if the dog is a fit for apartment living (dog is alone while I work) so I'd like to get some tips to help ease the transition. If the dog is better off in a house, with a companion dog, or person that stays at home that is fine but I want to make the effort. Day 1 barked all day, and if that was to be the theme it could be an issue, but since then has just barked for 10-20 minutes after I leave, sometimes will whine for a little longer, and then calm down to sleep which has been encouraging. While sometimes interested in treats (pb in Kong) it's not quite enough to distract when I depart. Would folks recommend crate or no crate? She isn't as good in crate and has been fine roaming freely (I monitor a camera while at work and listen). Anything else I can do?

EllenEveBaz
This is an oldie but goodie post that's in the Greyt Information forum http://forum.greytalk.com/index.php/topic/387-separation-anxiety/ It's a reply to a question like yours from someone whose dog had a severe and destructive case of separation anxiety. turbotaina
Also - you might want to upgrade the stuffing in the Kong. My first greyhound didn't care one way or the other about peanut butter, so his kongs were stuffed with either canned dog food, shredded chicken, yogurt, cheese, etc. and frozen. So super high value stuff. It's a good sign that your pup is barking less already. And you need to take time and do alone training This booklet is brilliant: I'll Be Home Soon.
