Guest thebuiscuitlady
A less serious than my earlier post (difficulties with new male), but irritating habit of both my new greys is their habit of shadowing me. EVERYWHERE I go, they are under foot. Cleaning- they follow me from one side of the room to the other, getting dressed they follow me into the closet. Its hard to move around with two 75 pound horse beasts wrapped around my legs. They settle down quickly when I sit, but I almost never sit. Do yall think this will ease up once they feel more secure? Ive had them 2.5 months. Edited March 21, 2018 by thebuiscuitlady

palmettobug
Nope! I have a small condo, wherever I go, Johnny has to follow, even though I'm only feet away. My bathroom is a small water-closet arrangement, with my long legs, the door, and him, it's a tight squeeze! Quote Current Crew: Gino-Gene-Eugene! cgs
I was wondering the same thing, though mine isn't quite so bad. In the evening, he's usually mostly down for the count and won't move after dinner. Right now he's lying nearby as I sit at my desk. He won't follow me right away if I get up, but if I don't come back, he'll come find me. He'll also just do laps around the kitchen/living room/dining room on his own while I"m puttering around the kitchen. I was wondering if it would subside.Sometimes I don't even know if he's there. I turn around and there he is.

fastpointydoge
Some shadow, some don't. Mind doesn't although I live in a very small one bedroom apartment. FiveRoooooers
Nope. Next question Srsly, its what they do. I often plan my escape from wherever I am to where I need/want to go, looking for the path with the least amount of company. This may simply be going from the living room to the kitchen. Hubcitypam
There was a woman who posted on this or another GH forum that she had'd been to the bathroom alone since 1987...if that makes you feel better.

palmettobug
It doesn't bother me, if they are in there with me, they're not fighting or getting into something or eating things they shouldn't. My mom shuts her cats out and they still stick their paws under the door and bang on it. Quote Current Crew: Gino-Gene-Eugene! JohnF
Totally par for the course. The only easing-up will be when they get older and need to sleep more. Don't feel guilty about shutting the door or penning them behind a child's gate. Occasionally toss them a treat that they can take away and deal with. greysmom
As you can see, it's very common. Sometimes it does ease up as the dogs settle in and become more independent. Some dogs will follw you no matter what. Mine tend to stay where they are unless food is involved, then all bets are off! Roo
Our first hound couldn't be bothered (he was super lazy). Our second hound was trained to not come down the hall unless invited (I don't remember why we did this, but she caught on really quickly). Tessa, bless her, had SA to the point where if she couldn't see me, she'd whine frantically. Though oddly enough, if she was relaxed enough (happened rarely), she'd let me go to the kitchen without immediately, frantically following me. The shadow thing isn't just greyhounds, though My terrier followed me everywhere. If I went to the bathroom, she'd haul her poor old butt off her bed and stand outside the door until I came out. If I went to the kitchen, she'd follow. Then she'd get tired and go lay down, then five minutes later come back, then lay down, then come back, rinse and repeat. She'd also just stand there looking totally downtrodden if I didn't go back and sit down quickly enough. Oh, and she was silent, so I'd often turn around and yelp because she had a habit of just appearing behind me. Talk about startling! Quote Mom of bridge babies Regis and Dusty. Roo
Three Terrierists and two poodles later that is a true fact. Obviously your old girl Terrier wasn't aptyl named Barkley like my old man (who is going to outlive me - it's that sturdy Peasant stock). I heard her bark on three occasions - once at deer (they startled her ), once at a cat (who also startled her, but who also looked fun to chase), and once at the smell of a bear. She would breathe-whine when she wasn't sure why I was doing something, and very occasionally she'd growl (but only at the smell of bear), but other than that, she didn't vocalize hardly at all. Quite the opposite of many terriers Quote Mom of bridge babies Regis and Dusty. Wrote a book about shelter dogs! I sell things on Etsy!

oforehand
I've had Cyrus about 6 months, and when we first got him he was absolutely a velcro dog. Now he'll let me go into another room without him as long as I come back pretty quickly. If I'm gone for too long he'll come investigate. GreyAcresMom
I am always within eye sight of my dogs. All of them. When I walk thru the house people laugh because Im the Pied Piper of dogs. Theres 6-8 on my heals any given moment. Two are my sisters dogs and sometimes they follow the pack. ETA: and I love it.
