FiveRoooooers
What she said. Seamie had SLO and the only supplement I gave him was Vit E, 400 units, with his meals. I dont remember right now if that was once or twice a day, I think twice, but it worked for him and his nails eventually stopped falling out without further issue. Quote Old Dogs are the Best Dogs. tbhounds
Sounds like the correct medicine protocol.
EllenEveBaz
My Scout had this when I got him at age 9 but it had been misdiagnosed as a fungal infection. We started out on a med regime like yours, and were gradually able to drop the doxy and the pain meds. His nail loss slowed to about one a year. That toe looked tender for a few days, and I gave him some pain meds then. His nails grew fast, and were gnarly. They had a strange texture -- kind of like a grainy hard cheese. He hated nail trimming, but of course it was important because you didn't want a long nail to catch on anything. So he learned to endure the trims. I am not sure the trims actually hurt or whether he objected because of past pain or general principle. Treats helped. Once we got the nails managed well, Scout was a happy, comfortable houndie until his death from kidney disease at age 13. Good luck with JJ and keep us posted.
