Guest MissEcho1
If you have any unused, previously prescribed Rimadyl in your hounds medicine cabinet, please discard it. Do not think of giving this to your greyhound unless your vet has done a recent blood test and can assure you that your beloved greyhound has no liver or kidney issues going on. Serious, deadly trouble can happen quickly as in the case when a younger hound didnt have problems, was prescribed Rimadyl after a dental and didnt use it all up, but then after several years the younger hound turned into an older hound who did have kidney problems. Many vets are unaware of issues with Rimadyl, and will ask you if your dog has eaten any rat poison lately when you call describing grave symptoms. I wish I had seen information such as this before we lost our hound in a very traumatic way. Im sharing it here to try to make sure this doesnt happen to anyone else. Here is more information you should read if you have a dog: http://www.dogsnaturallymagazine.com/most-dogs-do-well-on-rimadyl-except-the-ones-that-die/

racindog
You are correct. It is why death is listed as a "side effect". I know of only one local conventional vet that doesn't use it due to its history. Everybody else will tell you it is innocuous and disrespect you. But you did all you could do to warn them so your conscience is clear. Personally I don't use any canine NSAID's and I have had two that comfortably lived to almost 15 years old using what IMO were safer alternatives. JMO. PatricksMom
I'm so sorry you lost your baby. Thankfully my first boy, Patrick, had a non-fatal reaction, and we discontinued it immediately. But it is on our absolutely never ever list forever. Quote Beth, Petey (8 September 2018- ), and Faith (22 March 2019). Godspeed Patrick (28 April 1999 - 5 August 2012), Murphy (23 June 2004 - 27 July 2013), Leo (1 May 2009 - 27 January 2020), and Henry (10 August 2010 - 7 August 2020), you were loved more than you can know. September
I use it on my basset hound for her lyme disease/hip issues. She has a lot of lameness, and nothing else touches it. My vet requires that she gets a blood test every 6 months, however, to keep taking it. I hate having to use it but it does seem to work really well for her.
