NDiGio
Hello all! Darla is 3 years old and has been with us for 8 months now. Sweetest girl ever. Over the long New England winter, she always went for a long walk after dinner and would go right out before bed. Since it got hot out, she's been stubborn about going for the long walks. About 3 weeks ago, she hurt her neck and the vet gave her an anti-inflammatory. After taking it for about a week, she was having really bad diarrhea and gurgling stomach noises so we stopped that and the vet gave us something for her stomach. Since then, she's been as stubborn as anything about going out and when I get her out, she only walks about 15 feet then plants her feet. Sometimes I can get her to go a little further Any ideas? The diarrhea hasn't completely gone away but it better than it was. Her appetite is normal and I would not say she's lethargic. Any input would help. Thanks!!!! Walliered
I live in Savannah, Ga and it is ver hot here. I walk mine at daybreak and that is all. They will go in the back yard to do their business, but no walks. I am very concerned with heat strokes with this heat/humidity here so do not force mine to do anything outside. ramonaghan
I agree; I'm guessing the heat and humidity are the issue. Sweep's the same way when it's hot--it's like dragging an anchor around. We keep walks very short in summer and try to do more indoor field trips to pet-friendly stores so she doesn't get too stir crazy. As soon as temps drop, she's a much happier and better exercised dog. Quote Rachel with Doolin Doodle Dooooo, boss cat Tootie, and feline squatters Crumpet and Fezziwig. JohnF
Peggy won't go out when it's hot. Unpleasant temperatures for her seem to start at 65 and direct sun that heats he black flanks to being un-touchably hot is a no-no too, That's fine most of the year here in the UK, but in the recent heatwave where is stayed over 90 it was a waste of time trying to get her to go out for a walk between 9am and 9pm, Did your vet prescribe Omperazole for the stomach problems? Side Effects of OmeprazoleThe medication has been known to causes nervous system changes in some pets. NDiGio
Thanks for all the responses!! She wasn't prescribed either of those but it would make sense that any medicine can upset the stomach. And I had the thought that the stress of the neck pain, the stress of the recent heat, and she was boarded one night last week so maybe that all added to it. Maybe I just needed reassurance. Thank you all though!
