Guest xengab
Hi. My grey who is 5yo was diagnosed with D. Lupus and did fine on vitamin E and Niacin until november last year and then his nose got worse. He was put on prednisone for a week with tapering off doses after that. He was also put on doxicyclin (sp?) at the same time (its an antibiotic). December he started the meds, and his nose was like a normal dogs in Feb until Midmarch, then slowly his nose began to show the lupus and get pinker. We took him back to his vet who told us there might be other options for him and she'd call a dermatologist to consult. But she also suggested I reach out to other grey owners who might be able to suggest what there greys are on to combat this issue. It only effects his nose, making it crusty. We've tried doggie sunscreen but he just licks it off. He is also on a grain free diet, peanut butter in his kong and abit of shredded cheese on his food. (turkey and salmon varieties Nulo brand). Any foods I should have him avoid? What medication do you give your D.Lupus grey? Would you suggest seeing a dermatologist? Did they help? Guest FosterMom2014
I recently had a "thinking it may be" diagnosis(from a dermatologist that would have to do a biopsy to confirm, but she is pretty confident) of Discoid Lupus and what we were told to try is 600 units of Vit. E, stay out of the sun from 8-5 and use baby sunscreen 50 when out at other times. So I am staring this regimen today and should now something in 30-45 days. It was also mentioned if it wasn't kept under control(no cure for this disease) that it could become cancerous and that would be horrific. Just imagine on the nose, working its way down into the nose, mouth, face. I'll do whatever I can to keep it supples like a regular greys nose.
