Greys Go Grey Quicker?

Recommended Posts

Buck's muzzle went grey get at 4. I believe I've read most Molotov descendants grey early...and there a ton of the,.

Interesting - Ken who is a great-grandson of Molotov is already very grey although he won't turn six until next month. He is Irish-bred and I have also been told that black hounds from 'Irish lines' tend to go grey early.

I think he looks rather sweet and misleadingly wise with his grey muzzle and eyebrows but the downside is that people tend to think he's older than he is. Here are a couple of recent photos - you can see that the grey extends to his shoulders and legs too.

My old greyhound Doc on the other hand hardly went grey at all, even allowing for the fact that he was a brindle. Here he is at the grand old age of 13.

"It is also to be noted of every species, that the handsomest of each move best ... and beasts of the most elegant form, always excel in speed; of this, the horse and greyhound are beautiful examples."----Wiliam Hogarth, The Analysis of Beauty, 1753.

I have both :lol

Here are Charlie's parents who are 9 (black girl) and 8 (grey handsome beast). Only a white-tipped muzzle! Charlie who is 4 has absolutely no white in his face patches at all.

And at five years of age! We suspect he got a LOT whiter following adoption!

Buck was his son. The Ryan farm and the Butler's Greymeadows were the most amazing farms ever. What was so cool about the Ryans (Molotov's owners) was the had different turn outs they rotated the dog through...flat...wooded forest...hills.

It depends on the dog. I had a nine year old black dog with only a few gray hairs, and a dark brindle that went gray at four.
