Hello everyone!

About a month or so ago I posted a question about how to determine which was the best adoption group to go with. I finally picked a group and submitted my application. Much to my surprise I had a response in a few hours! I spoke with a wonderful lady the next morning and set an appointment for our home visit. Two reps came to visit us and one of the reps brought along her foster dog. We fell in love instantly. My husband who was reluctant to get a dog that was not a German Shepherd was smitten immediately. The dog took to my son right away and walked around the house with him, found the water bowl, jumped on my bed as if she had been living there from day one.

I'm not sure if that was the foster mom's plan but B*W*G M*elvia (I apologize for the asterisks but I prefer that her original name is not searchable) was destined to be part of our family. She is a beautiful 2 year old girl. Unfortunately, she broke her leg in what I assume was her last race. We had to wait a couple of weeks for the pins to be removed from her leg. Once they were removed she spent about 10 days in hospital and she finally came home to us on August 16, 2016. We have renamed her Maggie and she is an absolute dream. She is as sweet as the day is long, stable, loving, confident. She made herself right at home and has settled in like a champ. Because her leg is still healing and no longer bandaged she can not be off leash in the yard at any time for the next 6-8 weeks. We have been doing ok with that. Each day she gets a little bit stronger and I can tell that she is anxious for the freedom to walk about on her own.

We couldn't be more pleased with our Maggie.

Congrats to your new houndie. She is a sweet one but looks like she could wrap everyone around her paw. 😊

You will rebuild yourself around the loss you have suffered. You will be whole again but you will never be the same. Nor should you be the same, nor would you want to. Elisabeth Kübler-Ross
