Katy_3131 Posted June 23, 2016 Share Posted June 23, 2016 It has been a year since my fawn dog left us. He was my first grey, my introduction to this wonderful breed. He was my buddy, my rock, as I was his. I would comfort him during the storms that scared him so badly, and he would lay with me for hours when I needed someone to hold. He was beautiful when I adopted him, red fawn, black face and ears, white chest, feet and the tip of his tail. He had the weirdest feet, I called him my bunny boy. As he aged, the face lost its black, but his velvety ears never left, they were the softest thing I had ever touched. We knew something was wrong with him, we originally thought he had LS. He was losing muscle mass even tho he was eating fine. We tried Adaquan and it didn't do anything. He just kept losing weight. Finally our vet suggested an ultrasound. That is the day my world came crashing down. The Vet who did his ultrasound is very well respected in the Indianapolis area, he took one look and shook his head. Chance had Hermangiosarcoma. He had a huge mass in his "pelvic" region. It was so large that is was pushing on his bladder and had all but closed off the path to his rectum. We knew we didn't have much time, but I was going to keep my big baby comfortable as long as I could. I decided that would do all the things we loved to do together one more time. This meant a day trip downtown to Mass Ave, to going to the dog friendly stores and a pup cup from Starbucks. I took so many pictures that day, so many that are hard, even now to look at. I miss him everyday, Chance was my heart dog. I feel so lucky that I was able to share 7 years with him, and to have so many great memories. I was amazed that he made it to his 10th birthday, but I knew we had to let him go. I am, and will always be so grateful for the staff at Community Pet Healthcare, Dr. Matt and Kelley came to our house to help us send my beautiful boy to the bridge with dignity at home, where he belonged. The card we received the next week from them to this day sits on top of his box. I miss you Chancers, may you be running free at the bridge, I can't wait to see you again. When it came to Kasey's last days, I was already working on a "bucket list" for him as well and on his unexpected last day, we had no regrets as he had done all his very favourite things for one last time not long before his last day.
