Eating Food Everywhere

I have a 6 year old greyhound named leAnne and she carries her food everywhere and eats it.

Just wondering is this normal.

I have one that likes to pick everything out of his foodbowl and drop it on the floor (where he sometimes leaves it as a note to me to not serve that anymore).

 

So ... yup. Consider it a special trait of your pup.

I've had dogs that took mouthfuls out of their bowls and carried it elsewhere. it's just a quirk IMO.

Yeah, my girl will usually take the first few bites from the kitchen, and brings it into the living room to spit it out and eat it from the floor. I think it's because the livingroom is carpeted, and the kitchen is tile (which she does not like) but she does have a rug to stand on while she eats So she usually leaves nice crumbs in the living room after every meal. Sole reason I bought a Dustbuster that hangs right above her 'eating spot' This only lasts for the first few bites then I think she gets too lazy, haha. But like Hubcitypam I have just ruled it down to a quirk.

It is noon problem but makes a mess, she used to bolt her food but now meals in bed.

Yep, ours does it too. Sometimes I think she wants to eat where we do. At least she manages to clean it all up.

Mine tend to do it more with treats. I wonder if there is an instinct in pack animals to take your food off somewhere so you won't get challenged as often for it. Doesn't make sense in a life as a pampered pet, but instinct is instinct.

When I am visiting my parents with my hounds, my Luna prefers to eat on her pillow in a back bedroom rather than in the kitchen with Nova. She would pick up her whole bowl and carry it across the entire house to that pillow. We finally got the hint, and just started feeding her there. She does eat in the kitchen at my own house. We figured it was just another one of her goofball quirks.

My Gracie used to do this at our last house. Now she just expects me to hold her bowl for her while she eats lol. She takes her treats to the living room to eat so she is away from her "brother", the chow hound.

Two of mine are neat eaters but the third eats so fast that he scatters about half his food on the floor. They do carry treats out to another room.

I have a cat that does this, which I think is even more unusual. Just something that she does!

I have employed baby gates during feeding time because some of my dogs would meticulously take pieces of food from their bowls, to their beds.

All my boys do this with treats and I'm okay with it...

 

...but Andy also takes a mouthful of water after drinking and wanders off...

 

...dripping all over the floor... 😨
