tbhounds
I thought I saw subtle changes in the right humerous - bone tumors can present anywhere in the body -spine included-esp if your considering myeloma. From what I understand when diagnosing myeloma you should get complete blood work and a urinalysis. Please let us know what Dr Couto's response is once he gets a better look at the rads. More importantly-how is Zuri? Comfortable I do hope.
NeylasMom
Thanks, he's good. He was very sore after all of the manipulation yesterday, which I expected so I added some Tramadol to his meds temporarily and he was much better when I got home today. Trotting around playing with his toy as usual and did well on our potty walk. I tried to schedule an oncology consult yesterday after I left the ortho, but they're not in on Fridays. I'm going to call at 8 am when they open Monday to see when they can get us in. I was thinking I'd have my vet run labs in the meantime, but after more reading I think it's better if we just get into oncology. Depending on when they can get us in I'll ask whether to wait or they can request specific tests for my vet to run. I read about a specific thing to check for in the urine for myeloma, but I don't really want to go too far down any path without consulting the specialists. Also still waiting for the radiologist's report. NeylasMom
I'm sorry. This is a recurring nightmare, isn't it. It sure is. I don't know why, but I thought given all of the other issues Zuri has - his LS and vision loss - that we would escape osteo with him. I've been saying for a long time that he's the dog who would grow old and go senile and bark all of the time and have poop falling out of his ass and I would be grateful for every minute. Of course, I thought Neyla had escaped it too since so many dogs are diagnosed younger than she was and then bam. I guess maybe I mostly hoped the world wouldn't be so cruel, but having seen so many on here lose multiple dogs to cancer and in even shorter time spans I know that's not true either. In some effort at self-preservation I am maintaining a certain level of denial and holding out hope that this is myeloma and we've caught it early. Or that at the very least they are wrong about the changes in his right shoulder. Thanks everyone for the support.
