Guest Joann
I adopted my lovely grey 2 years ago from Florida. We live in Nova Scotia Canada. His name is Ugo.he first present with watery diareah and pee accidents in the house. He was due to be wormed so I did. He then developed ascities. I took him to the vet. We have done multiple multiple tests ..urinalysis a few...blood work a few..4dx..2 ultrasounds and xrays. The fluid is just clear water nothing really in it. He does have a 3+ protein finding in his urine. He acts completely normal huge appetite of course wants treats barks and is excited when I return home from work etc. Nothing is showing in all these tests ..I've spent $2500 in a month on tests and meds. With no answers. He is on 2 lacix meds and fortekor. Was also on 30 day antibiotic.he has been tapped 4 times. He was tapped two days ago and yesterday he woke up with an adema on his right side. .it is less today and I don't see signs as if yet of the ascites returning...I'm not getting my hopes up though. I know it session like kidney or liver ..but...Nothing is showing that the organs are not functioning. Nothing in ultrasound showing disease or masses or tumors. If anyone has any insight please share..I'm love my boy. The vets seem to think he's a mystery at the moment. Thank you for your help. mom2four
Hi from Calgary. I'm sorry that Ugo is having such problems. My only suggestion would be to contact Dr. Couto, the GH guru. Here is his website (from a search here on GT), the email is at the bottom of the page. http://www.coutovetconsultants.com/ Good luck! Guest Joann
Thank you ..I have send an email to him with a little more detail such as drugs etc. Ugo is happy and acting fine but I know there are answers yet to be found. Thank you again
tbhounds
I was going to suggest Dr Couto too--please keep us posted! (I assume your vets ran a bile acids test?)
Guest Joann
I'm not sure but I will certainly ask ..what will that provide ...if there is a blockage ?
MP_the4pack
Of the tests done was a liver function test done? That is not part of a regular chem panel. They test liver enzymes. This is a special test. My 5 yr old had ascites. The regular liver tests were normal. Her liver function tests were off the charts. She was in full liver failure. Guest Joann
I'm assuming yes as they were quite sure is was liver or kidneys..then said he's a mystery because both organs wee functioning fine. No jaundice either was your grey acting totally normal with full liver failure? Thank you for your reply and I look forward to your answer. tbhounds
I going to guess that a gi endoscopy is going to be recommended as a next procedure. What was the UPC?
Guest Joann
The UPC was normal first time. Another is being done now waiting on results today..will keep you posted. The UPC was normal first time. tbhounds
The UPC couldn't be normal with a +3 protein in the urine. Are you saying it was below 0.5? (Within the reference range) Edited April 18, 2016 by tbhounds
Guest Joann
They told me first one was slightly up second was normal and they checked it again and I'm waiting to hear. I don't have the actual records with the number ratios ..only what they tell me (normal or elevated etc. ) I can find out the number ratio though. .stay tuned. Guest Joann
Update...Dr. couto is going to review Ugo's case. Ugo is still full of energy and eating very well. No ascities has returned in over a week. If it has its extremely slight. My vet and consulting etc college vet say he doesn't fit anything 100% tests don't fit this and if it were something else it doesn't fit exactly so they are leaning to portal hypertension secondary to liver maybe cirrhosis. ..but...Nothing should on the ultrasounds. And his behavior certainly doesn't reflect
