Guest kar
Snow keeps getting recurrent uti's. Just had ultrasound and everything was normal. Does anyone give any supplements to help stop recurrent uti's. they are not only painful for her but expensive for me.
NeylasMom
Vetri-Science makes 2 great products. UT Stat Strength is only to be given for a 7-10 day period, but I read in rvws that some just do a "course" automatically every so often. Then they also have an everyday supplement. Both are available on Amazon. Assuming you've done cultures so you know you're treating with the right antibiotic? NeedlenoseJake
Is it possible to give a low-dose antibiotic daily to prevent them? I know they do this with people sometimes... (btw UTIs are freaking awful!) Quote Photographer in Phoenix, AZ www.northmountainphoto.com
Houndtime
Have you tried giving her cranberry capsules every day? We used to do that with Brandy. I have also heard that filtered water is better than tap water. You must finish the antibiotics, or maybe, even a longer term; like maybe three weeks instead of 10 days for example. I would keep Baytril in the house, and when I saw the first indication of UTI, I would start giving them to her. My vet trusted me to know, and I would just bring in a sample. Good luck. krissy
How old is the dog? How long has she been off the track? Recurrent UTIs happen for a reason generally. Since an ultrasound has been done I'm assuming stones have been ruled out, and to some extent ectopic ureters. Persistent hymen is another cause for recurrence (this ended up being the cause for Kili) and you need a cystoscope to diagnose it, which also allows for ectopic ureter rule out (for the most part). I'm assuming we've ruled out diabetes as well, as sugar in the urine leads to a higher rate of infections.... Brandiandwe
We also found that a food intolerance was the main cause of Brandi's ongoing UTIs. We shifted to raw which seemed to sort things out (which I realise might not be an option), but it seemed that the kibble was inflaming her system. We also found B1 helped, as did trying more acidic foods, like tomatoes.
Batmom
If we have more than one in a short timespan, we make sure that we retest a day or two after the antibiotics are done and again @ 10 days later. Sometimes the original infection is not cleared.
