Guest greyhound Posted January 17, 2016 Share Posted January 17, 2016 I renamed her Pearl when we adopted her in October 2002. She was born July 28, 2000. It was soon obvious that she had a gift for making everyone get along, and she had a huge personality, unlike all of the other greyhounds that have picked us. I am somewhat relieved to say that she lived for 15 1/2 years without any pain or medication. In the end, she just had trouble with steps, and subsequently, she sprained her leg. A week later, she had recovered and she fell again, Bright mind, great vision, but her body was not cooperating with her mental age of a youngster. She ate like a horse, 4 meals a day, and would not put on a pound. The vets were always shocked when they saw her age, and how good she looked, perfect teeth. It had to be genetics. Well Pearl, we talked about this for 2 years, I always reveled in every moment that I could tell you "Thank you Pearl, for living another day". You were the best greyhound that I have ever met, and I could never be angry at God for having a 15 1/2 year old greyhound, but I still am in tears because you were such a great friend to share the days with, and I wish you were still here with us. Our Lydia's nemesis was the steps as well. But like you, we were blessed that she had many years (14 1/2) without any major problems. 15/12 years----how wonderful that Pearl was able to be part of a loving family for so long. I'm so sorry you lost your precious lady.
