Guest BlueCatch
I have searched the formus and I don't seen anything recent on this topic. Please excuse me if I missed it. Catch has had very loose stools for a month. Tried changing food and nothing helped. Brought her to vet today and she was diagnosed with Canine Coccidiosis. I have done some reading and my main concern is reading that adult dogs (catch is 6) don't ususally get this and if they do, it means something else is going on. Usually a compromised immune system. Catch is a healthy 6 year old greyhound accoring to my vet. Should I be concerned? Yes, she has been caught eating turkey and bunny poop. GeorgeofNE
There is no reason to fear the worst. We had a female english setter who got it repeatedly from eating rabbit poop. You need to muzzle and use a stool guard if you cant stop that behavior. Quote Susan, Hamish, Mister Bigglesworth and Nikita Stanislav. tbhounds
Most likely picked it up eating nasties. If the immune system is strong coccidia is usually self limiting. Albion is typically prescribed to help assist the body while resolving the Protozoa.
a_daerr
I once had a cat that came to me with coccidia. She was living near a dumpster outside a bar and eating garbage. Once she got Albon, she got better and it never came back. I wouldn't worry too much.
