Ask a different vet "what is the maximum dose you can give your hound before possible overdose"? Take that dose and back it down a slight bit. Then you will know when it is time to say goodbye (when that dose no longer helps with the pain). At this point the negative side effects of the medication do not matter at all. That is what I did with one of mine. I had 2 weeks. May God grant you strength and ease your spirit.
