peglywegly Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 (edited) Hi Greyhound Experts, My first female foster. She was doing a full perfect roach today and i noticed some red discolorations in her abdominal area. I am going to put a warm wet wash cloth in the area and then wash with some very gentle perineal skin cleanser. i want to post a couple of pics, to show before pics. And maybe it is just a skin issue? She is with us to do an extended CAT test, she does great 98% of the time. If the cats runs, she will give chase. And get her muzzle put on. She hates her muzzle, rubs on everything to get it off. Any advice on getting her to not want to chase the other pets, would be helpful. <iframe width="480" height="360" src="http://s1284.photobucket.com/user/peglyhubba/embed/slideshow/"></iframe> the first 8 images of the white and light brindle patches dog are relevant to this post. peglywegly Posted August 24, 2015 Author Posted August 24, 2015 (edited) we've had her since Wednesday evening last week. I haven't noticed her licking or bothering the area. I have had to watch her closely due to cat situation. i think i will call my adoption coordinator, and see if i can take her into the vet. The wet rag didn't clean up the brown specks. but she liked the wet cloth. tbhounds Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Staph pyoderma. May be secondary to allergies. I would clean the area with a diluted chlorhexadine and visit your vet -she may need oral antibiotics. Quote

peglywegly Posted August 25, 2015 Author Posted August 25, 2015 (edited) thank you all, it looked better with just the first wash and cleansing. i did put antibiotic ointment on the open sore. and the brown specks were cleansed away w/perineal cleaner. so it is cleaner down there already. after dinner we checked and cleaned it again. hubby is going up to walgreens for chlorhexidine or antiseptic skin cleanser. we have a vet appt at 5 pm tomorrow. Why do all the fosters have issues? or is it me, every foster has had to go to the vet... tbhounds Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 tbhounds diluted chlorhexadine - 50/50 ? The veterinary concentration is 2% it's typically blue in color-there really isn't a definitive ratio-dilute to a light sky blue. I believe most of the human OTC chlorhexadine solutions are 4%?? Dilute even further. More is not better. The ratio is probably more like 1:10.The veterinary concentration is 2% it's typically blue in color-there really isn't a definitive ratio-dilute to a light sky blue. peglywegly Posted August 25, 2015 Author Posted August 25, 2015 (edited) Yes, the over the counter has red dye. I've been doing at 50/50. I will add more water for next wash. There has been a marked improvement from just cleaning with chlorhexadine. Thank you for such a great diagnosis. The images in google images are extreme. I'm sure the Vet Doc will be happy that I got your advise to help her so quickly. thank you tbhounds! thank you greywrangler gryhnds4us, macoduck Edited August 25, 2015 by peglywegly Quote Peggy - Pete (Wild Pan Thief), Remy (Exotic Ziricote) Buddy the Golden 11-26-04 to 9-18-15, the KATZ - Ozzy, Freckles, Jake and Elwood Hubba, Desert Tortoises Tortilita, and Athena. and when I figure out how to make a PET collage they will all be included in this signature. peglywegly Posted September 23, 2015 Author Posted September 23, 2015 Hello Greyhound Experts, The girl foster, has developed the pimple spots again. i will re treat w/Chlorahexidine. Is there something i can add to her food to strengthen her skin and fur. i have to call the foster coordinator(on vacation) to get her into the vet. i may just take to my regular vet and self pay...she is a great dog. and the spots don't bother her. tbhounds Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 It's most likely staph secondary to allergies. Your vet may want to start her on antihistamines with out with antibiotics. Sometimes can can control dermal staph by frequent baths using a medicated shampoo-once the infection has cleared try using a soap free shampoo. My boy has allergies and this time of year he needs twice a week bathing to remove the topical allergens. Quote
