Guest DarkHorse Posted July 11, 2015 Share Posted July 11, 2015 After a short but hard battle with liver cancer, we let Araley go this morning. She was ready, even if we weren't. The vets were shocked at how quickly things progressed with her, and couldn't see anything left to do that wouldn't cause immense pain and suffering and not improve her prognosis. She came to join us over seven years ago, on May 4th, 2008. The first time we met her, she jumped up to give me a hug and knocked me on my butt. She was the reason we even went to the kennel, and she was the reason we adopted. We picked Dexter to match her, because we knew we wanted her. She patiently put up with us, Dexter, and her two kitty brothers, even when we were all just too much for her sensibilities. She was a princess, loving to sleep on the bed we made her from our old mattress and boxspring and a futon mattress. But when she saw other people or dogs, all of that went away and she was just thrilled to meet them. There's nothing I can say that can ever fully explain who she was. She loved life, even if she had to sigh dramatically about it sometimes. She touched everyone who met her, and so many people walked away from meeting her wanting greyhounds. She was always ready to reach out with a paw or wag her tail to draw attention. In her last moments, she pushed her paw into my hand, saying goodbye. We loved you, princess. We always will.
