Guest kasidonis
We adopted my newbie a couple of months ago, she's 2 and only had 3 races, not much of a runner my girl. One issue I'm having trouble resolving is 2 sores on the inside of her knuckles on her back paw. It appears to be from friction between the two toes. I've tried using corn cushions but not having much luck. I'm not sure if I should place gauze between the toes and wrap it or whether that would make it worse.. Also considering New skin.... has anyone had a similar issue and success in resolving it?

Also considering New skin.... has anyone had a similar issue and success in resolving it? My hound has had this issue since we got him. Currently he has sores between almost all of his toes on his back paws. I know one or two of them are torn webbing from running, but the others seem like what you're saying-friction sores. They would heal if he would stop licking them, but he's ocd and has to lick everything. We just clean the sores once a day, and put baby socks with tape around them to keep them on him to wear while we aren't home and at night before bed so he cant get to them. Roo
One of the kennel kids at PRH had this problem We sprayed between his affected toes with something - I think it was betadine - to dry the area and promote healing. It worked rather well! Perhaps you could try using betadine between her toes? Quote Mom of bridge babies Regis and Dusty. Wrote a book about shelter dogs! I sell things on Etsy! Hawthorn
My girl has this issue from time to time. I deal with it by putting a piece of cotton wool in between the toes; not too much, just enough to keep the toes apart but comfortable. I find it stays there pretty well by itself, but sometimes I put a baby sock over it and fix it on with some vetwrap above the joint and if we go for a walk I put a boot over the sock as well. cleptogrey
medicated foot powder- amen's or gold bond sprinkled will help keep the area dry. it's keeping it dry that can be the answer w/ toe/webbing irritations.
Guest kasidonis
thanks, I have been using polysporin on it and realize from all your posts I'm doing the opposite of what I should be doing in not keeping it dry. I'll pick some up. thanks everyone.
racindog
Slim had that with one of his back feet. Board certified vet was helpless and did nothing after ~$300. I put a poltice of the original pescalite clay between those toes for a couple of weeks at night;covered it in/ with saran wrap around and then a bandage and washed off with hose in the morning. That healed it up. Then I sprayed Tuff-Foot http://tuffoot.com/ on his feet before bed at night most nights and never had a problem with it again.
