Prayers For Henry Please

Recommended Posts

Henry got into a pudding with Xilotol last night. By the time we realized what was in it and that he'd gotten it, it had been a couple of hours. He got to the evet, poison control said he had eaten just on the edge of enough to be concerned. He's been on monitoring all night w/IV support, but at 7:30 his blood suger check was low so he's on the sugar drip. His liver level was just at the edge of moderate concern, so he's on the supportive meds for that. I'm waiting for them to call with his next blood sugar level check, but I just checked in and he's doing fine.

I feel like the worst mom in the world. I'm changing my own medications and haven't slept more than a few hours in days and can't think straight. I knew Dh brought the wrong product, but I didn't think to tell him to be careful and he didn't realize it could be dangerous. Henry's not Patrick, he hates being at the vet. They keep saying he's perfectly calm but I had to carry him back into the treatment area, he's never going to forgive me for this, he's still mad about last summer when I had to take him to our vet a whole bunch.

Please send prayer, good wishes, anything you can.

Beth, Petey (8 September 2018- ), and Faith (22 March 2019). Godspeed Patrick (28 April 1999 - 5 August 2012), Murphy (23 June 2004 - 27 July 2013), Leo (1 May 2009 - 27 January 2020), and Henry (10 August 2010 - 7 August 2020), you were loved more than you can know.

Good thoughts for Henry. Don't worry, I don't think he's going to hold a grudge. Dogs live in the moment and once he gets past this he'll be fine. He knows you love him. Accidents happen.

Glad you caught it in time. It seems more products have this ingredient added, so it's becoming a much bigger hazard for pets.

Thanks. They said it was a good thing we got him in long before he starting having problems, I hope that's true. I just need my boy to be okay.

Blood sugar is coming up slowly, which is a good thing, they don't want it to come up to fast. He's resting comfortably but alert, ate his breakfast with gusto. We're going to go to visit as soon as I can get off the floor. If things go well, they'll start to wean him off the sugar drip around 5pm, and he'll stay the night. His liver levels were so near okay there's no point in reachecking until Monday afternoon or Tuesday, but they'll keep him on the medication just in case.

Good thoughts to you all! I've seen xylitol in stuff that doesn't even need it, up to and including things that have sugar in it already! I got to the point of where I read labels of everything because you can't be too careful anymore. I hope he continues to make good progress!

Sending out good thoughts and white light for Henry. I hope he's able to come home soon and have no lasting effects from this. And you are, as others have said already, NOT the worst mom in the world. You're not even a bad mom. Accidents happen. The important thing is you acted quickly. That is what good moms do.

I am so glad that he is improving. I am amazed at the number of products that have. Please don't beat yourself up about this, accidents happen.

DH just got back from the evet. He's doing well, his gluscose levels didn't get very low and stablilized quickly, so he's back off that. They are taking him off IV fluids. If he tests keeps testing okay, he should be ready to come home at 10pm. We may decide to leave him there for the night, since we are 45 minutes away and I don't want to risk something happening overnight. They said there's no point in retesting the liver values for a couple of days, they weren't that elevated so they don't expect to see them come down probably for a week, so we're keeping him on the support meds until his vet okays taking him off. Somehow our message that he chatters his teeth didn't transfer over night, so when DH got there they were trying to figure out what if he was cold, until he started going crazy when he saw DH, he's my little chatterbox.

Thanks for the good wishes.

Good news!! :) I didn't even realize that xylitol was bad for dogs until very recently. Wondering if I have anything here with that in it....

Check, please. It's croppping up in more and more stuff. We went through the whole kitchen today.
