BatterseaBrindl Posted June 25, 2015 Share Posted June 25, 2015 (edited) Early this morning, Emma, my 16 year old Connemara/QH was relieved of her chronic foot pain. She has had on-again, off again laminitis in both front feet for several years. I bought her as a yearling ... chose her from a herd of about 15 Connemaras and Connemara crosses. Such a fabulus little mover with a sweet temperament and she was going to take me great places in the Dressage ring! However...when she was rising 3, she sustained a grade 3, displaced fracture of her ulna ... and of course we had no idea how that happened ....and this was the begining of her foot problems. Eight months of stall rest, followed by weeks of limited turn-out was not kind on her body. As she moved into middle age, being an 'easy-keeper', combined with inactivity only made things worse, even with a no-grain / grass diet> She was always muzzled in the summer months when out on pasture. She would often go many, many months of being reasonably sound and pain-free, but this past winter was very hard on her and I vowed she would not see another one. She had a nasty flare-up this past Sunday... and it could very well have been an abcess brewing, but I decided then and there that 'Better a day too early' was kinder than 'A day too late'. So this morning I brushed her up, braided her mane and took her out to gorge on the green, green grass. She went peacefully to the Bridge, chewing her apples...
