It can be so hard to decide the right time, especially when they show us spontaneous behaviours that make it seem as though everything is okay. In my case, I just had to accept that (despite my false hopes) she wasn't going to get better or be her old self. She was only going to get worse. It is that fine line between deciding when an illness is really affecting their quality of live and comfort level. Never an easy decision, but please do not feel guilt about whatever you decide. Hugs This is where we are, and what we must realize as well. We've spent the day crying in private off and on, knowing she will not get better, she will only get worse. And that could be a stroke, or being unable to breathe because the fluid has spread. And we can't let that happen. We made an appointment to have her put to sleep on Saturday. I'll stay home with her all day tomorrow. On Saturday, I think she'll get a steak, and a last ride with her Dad---her favorite thing in the world. And though it breaks our hearts, we'll let our perfect little girl go free. Please keep her in your thoughts, and if any hound or human is inclined to roo, please give a big roo for Tess. She's the champion rooer, and I think it would make her happy. When she hears me in the kitchen, she comes in for treats, and of course, I have to give her something every time. I'm just hanging out with her all day, giving her gentle hugs and kisses and telling her I love her, except when I need to go into the computer room if I feel the tears coming on. I put a baby gate across the outside steps, and we've been sitting on the porch enjoying the nice day. I think she'll get steak tonight too.....
