Yes. And it can significantly change the texture if they eat enough of it. It's one reason why mine all wear stool guards - so they won't eat dirt. Especially in the Spring, for some reason.

They can also pick up parasites eating dirt and grass. Another good reason for stool guards.

Last summer we fought two kinds of worms because I let them out and they ate grass. No more.
