Guest ms3569
My recently adopted greyhound may have Pannus. Forum members have recommended seeing an animal ophthalmologist. I live an hour north of Philadelphia near Allentown PA. can anyone suggest a ophthalmologist in Northeastern PA. He's also being worked-up for food allergies but would prefer to have his eyes checked sooner than later. Thanks
45MPHK9
I can highly recommend Dr. Gross at Metropolitan Veterinary Associates. He helped us manage Bee Wiseman's pannus. He is an outstanding doctor and MVA is a top notch facility. MVA is in Trooper, PA and just under an hour's drive from Allentown. Dawnnziggy
Two of my 3 hounds have pannus. Ziggy was diagnosed with pannus soon after we got him 9 years ago. Dawson also has pannus. He has been on drops for 6 years. I also have an ointment to put in his eyes when they seem worse than normal. I guess what I am trying to say is that it is treatable. Do not worry too much about it. However, it is never "cured."
cometdust1
I used Valley Central Veterinary Referral & Emergency Center, 210 Fullerton Ave., Whitehall, PA. Phone#610-435-1553. My boy also has Pannus. They have an opthamologist there and their fees are reasonable. Its lifelong but very treatable. No worries.
cleptogrey
life long, very treatable. just make sure that if you dog indulges in some extra curricular activities and ends up with a scratch to the cornea that the steroidal drops/ointment are replaced with one w/o the steroids. annie's pannus looked awful after her cornea scratch healed, since it wasn't treated for a couple of months while the ulcer healed. but the pannus is now receding again. by accident i ordered the drops vs. ointment. the ointment seems to last longer and i haven't yet noticed a change in how well they work. the best price for meds that i have found is allivet(1/2 the price of what the vet charges). Annie's using bacatracin/dexometasone/neosporin combo. it seems to be the standard treatment. some vets add another drop if the dog doesn't respond. has your regular vet checked her eye yet? they too can treat it, it's not such an uncommon problem. Burpdog
has your regular vet checked her eye yet? they too can treat it, it's not such an uncommon problem. If that is in fact the only eye problem. Since we have an opthamologist close and he is not outrageous in price, I took Solomon to him. Granted Solomon was older, however, vet told me never let anyone put pred in his eyes because of an underlying condition. It would cause horrible ulcers. I will always go to an opthamologist with an eye problem like panus Quote Diane & The Senior Gang Burpdog Biscuits
Guest keyt
Georgia is 5 and was just diagnosed with pannus. She is a small greyhound- 70 lb- I want to order some "doggles" and am wondering what size would fit? Any suggestions? Are there any other dog goggles that anyone would recommend? 45MPHK9
My dog's ophthalmologist said don't bother with doggles. We never bought them for our hound with pannus. cleptogrey
someone donated a pair of doggles to our adoption group. IMHO they are a total waste of $$$~ for fun we put them on annie- they didn't stay on for more than 20 seconds, but those were a hysterical 20 seconds! everyone was near peeing in their pants. GeorgeofNE
Doggles just really don't seem to fit any dog. I again. Don't bother. Quote Susan, Hamish, Mister Bigglesworth and Nikita Stanislav. Missing Ming, George, and Buck
