Zander Has Osteo, Amp Tomorrow

Recommended Posts

Many of them just won't sit still, they're very determined after an amputation.

They sent Pinky home to me 24 hours after she woke up from surgery because she was angry about being in a big kennel and she wanted to be able to move around more!

That fighting spirit is coming through loud and clear from Mr. Zander. He'll be home soon and jump right back into the pack.

Which leg?

Just seeing this, Robin. I'm so sorry you're going through it again, but I'm glad the surgery went well and he'll be home soon. May you have a quick and uncomplicated recovery and many years left together!

I feel for both you and Zander - cancer is such a nasty disease. But glad to hear he is recovering well.

My boy Stolie recently had a front leg amp and chemo...he is 6 years old and young like Zander. The good news is that the recovery from the amp was relatively quick. My biggest problem was keeping his activity level low...but he insisted on stairs, couch, jumping on the bed, walks, running on uneven ground (actually a grass field - yep I'm over protective).... Over the past 6 months his musculature in the rear and sides is noticeably stronger and more pronounced.

I found getting him back to the usual routine as soon as he was able was helpful to both of us. I tried sleeping downstairs with him the first couple of nights...but he didn't settle and the couch wasn't very comfortable for me. So we brought him into our bed (his usual sleeping place) and finally we both had a good sound sleep...phew.

Stolie had fantom pain for a couple of months....which was a bit unsettling as everything is nice and calm and then he whimpers/yelps :dunno . I was pretty generous with the pain meds for ~3-4 weeks. I find I tune into every little whimper he makes (even now 6 months later)...which is really more my problem than his. But he does appreciate all the extra attention. :beatheart

Best wishes to both of you for a speedy recovery.

Wow, QUITE a feat with a front leg amp (in my experience the rear leg amps tend to get up and moving a little quicker than front legs).
