Guest Lygracilux
This morning I let Fusion out when we got up. He peed, I fed him, then I let him out once more before work and he pooped. At first it was his normal "solid" poo's then at the end there was blood and slimy yellow stuff in it. He's acting normal, not dehydrated, ate fine. We havent changed anything in his diet. He did chew off a tiny piece of his stuffie last night...and he does eat the iggy's poops/cat poops if he gets the chance. I asked the vet what he thought, and he said if it continues through Monday to bring in a sample. My question is: Is it normal for a dog to randomly poop blood? I hope its not worms again. We JUST got rid of them a month ago lol.
macoduck
Was it bright red or dark red? Slimy stuff may have been mucousy stuff that kinda protects the bowel when irritated. My mutt girl Pudge had that frequently. RedHead
Mine have had that occasionally. I think it was caused by something that they ate that irritated their digestive tract. Blood is not "normal" but in my experience it went away in a day or two. If not, definitely check in at the vet, as it could also indicate more serious issues. tbhounds
While most people associate blood in stool with cancer in dogs it's typically caused by colitis=inflammation in the bowel.
Time4ANap
Probably irritation from the stuffy. It doesn't take much to get that mucousy blood if the tummy or bowel is irritated. If it keeps up, then the vet may want to do 7-10 days of metronidazole. Quote Camp Broodie. The current home of Mark Kay Mark Jack and Gracie Kiowa Safe Joan. Guest Lygracilux
Thanks guys! Eased my worrying just a bit. He didnt have any blood in his poo this evening, but it was fairly soft. So thats a good sign I think. Im just going to keep his diet bland for a few days (no treats or additives to his kibble) see if that firms things up again.
