Guest sireltonsmom
Could you stop somewhere after 10 - 15 minutes to just sit with her for 5 minutes before going on? Then increase the time a little at a time? And, google car sickness in dogs, and call the vet's office for advice. Hopefully people on GT have lots of advice as well. Good luck. dmdsmoxie
Try giving her some ginger snap cookies, or anything with ginger in it, about 30 minutes before you go in the car. Ginger settles a person or animals stomach, but depending on how bad it is will determine how well it works. Many people drink flat warm ginger ale for their stomach and you could try that also. DesiRayMom
Dramamine worked for my Skeeter dog (who used to puke before I could get to the corner of my block). He eventually got used to car rides & was happy to go. Quote Blessed is the person who has earned the love of an old dog.
nessa
second the Dramamine or bonine but this was with a sheltie. Not sure of the dose but it worked and he got used to rides and then loved them !
cleptogrey
make sure you have plenty of fresh air and don't keep the car warm. i had one dog who got car sick for over 9 months- finally a 6.5 hr trip to vermont cured him. there was nothing left to barf- washable towels or use a crate lined w/ paper. i fed him after our trips, that helps. greysmom
You can also try the drug Cerenia from you vet. It was developed specifically for canine car sickness, though it is often used for other types of nausea. It doesn't work all the time or on every dog. Our puppy Lilly used to get projectile-vomiting-sick in the car. Cerenia stopped the vomiting, but she drooled enough to fill a bucket, so she was still nauseaus. She has finally out-grown most of it. Really curvy roads still get to her.
