cello
Just in case they have to cast her, these protective boots are AWESOME! Used one for my foster who was in a cast for three months for a bad break with surgical repair. She never even got her cast damp with the boot on! http://medivetproducts.com/products/#medipaw Hope Mazy feels better soon. Quote Molly Weasley Carpenter-Caro - 6 Year Old Standard Poodle. macoduck
Still waiting to hear the final word from Dr Couto. It's just an itty bitty bone in the middle of her foot. She probably did break it while running like a banshee around the yard. Although she didn't run on Sunday, she did run on Saturday. Unless Dr C's specialist friend recommends it he says a wrap, cast or boot is not necessary. We are very happy with this outcome, especially since we all think the worst when our greyhounds limp. macoduck
Update: The swelling has gone down and Mazy wants to run. She's annoyed that I won't let her. She's putting more weight on that foot today and hops with it off the ground when she wants to go a little faster. Erika it's an itty bitty bone so no cast or stabilization was needed. She's fine but it scared the heck out of me. macoduck
Update from Dr Couto who initailly suspected a tiny fracture: Report from Dr. Dyce below. Good news!"There is soft tissue swelling dorsal to the proximal right tarsus. The resolution of the images as received makes interpretation of any subtle orthopedic abnormalities diffcult. Soft tissue swelling in this region would be typical for avulsion of the insertion of the cranial tibial muscle, and if that is the diagnosis then I would expect a positive response to the treatment plan (no need for antibiotics)."Guillermo For me Dr Couto's consult fee was worth it to hear this. Mazy was not seen by her regular vet at the practice and I did not have full confidence in the one who saw her. My only real criticism (because I'm a human xray tech) was how they didn't center the xray beam on the swollen part of her hock. Because they were trying to get most of the leg included, and the hock was couldn't be centered, you lose detail of the actual injured area. It was OK with me that they did xray the whole lower leg, as well as the other leg for comparison, especially since they did not even have to sedate her. The swelling started going down by day 2 on the rimadyl. Then she ran when DH let her out. I've now condoned off a very small area outside our backdoor for her potty area. Neither Mazy, Charlie or Mikey are happy with me right now.
